Swarthmore RD Class of 2023

@nosleep Ok, I’ll start with the stats for my son but you all have to reciprocate

GPA - 3.92 unweighted 5.7 out of 6 weighted
ACT - 33
SAT - didn’t send
he never took subject tests because standardized testing is the devil
AP tests - a handful of 4’s
Extracurriculars - theatre, theatre and more theatre. He will have been involved with 22 plays by the time he graduates high school, everything from ensemble to lead also costumes, makeup, sound crew and marketing. Regional awards and ensemble work with professional companies.

Hooks - family is Quaker, his aunt is an alum and moderately active in the alumni association

Strengths - passionate about the intellectual side of theatre, had really great interviews and visits, I personally thought he wrote a fantastic ‘why Swat’ essay but I’m biased

Weaknesses - our neighborhood high school is not academically rigorous and his test scores, while good, are not top of the line.

@ninakatarina I absolutely love “…standardized testing is the devil.” We feel the exact same way. My two older sons chose which colleges to apply to by what standardized tests were required. They scored very well on the ACT/SAT, but they did not want to take any AP tests nor any SAT subject tests.

My son applied as an international student graduating from a US High School. His stats are
GPA 3.97 (unweighted), 8 AP courses (including the senior year)–all 5
SAT 1550 , 3 SAT subject test ( all 90 percentile). Average EC s (with Varsity sport). I know his chances are lower than other students as he applied for financial aid and Swarthmore College has need aware admission policy for international students.

Out of interest, where is everyone from? I am on the West Coast of the US (Washington State). Does Swarthmore tend to accept people from a pretty even spread of the country?

Here’s last year’s demographics post

https://www.swarthmore.edu/news-events/980-students-admitted-to-swarthmore-class-2022

“The admitted students come from or represent six continents, 63 nations, and 50 U.S. states as well as the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. California is the most highly represented home state of members in the newly admitted class. Following, in order, are New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Texas, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Illinois.”

3 more days!!! so nervous :frowning:

Any previous info on Admitted students day? Website for 2022 has it “in April”.

Last year, it looks like Swatstruck began on April 19th (according to the Swarthmore twitter)

I’m applying with a 1510. 740 english 770 math. I took a lot of subject tests and don’t remember which ones I sent but they were all low to mid 700s. GPA 4.55 weighted 4.0 unweighted. 4 5’s on AP tests so far and taking 5 AP classes this year. I also took a college class last summer and am taking another one now. Lots of ECs mostly service. President of NHS, Youth Director at a nonprofit, started a group for low income kids, math team, mock trial, XC, track (I suck at running so not a captain or anything). Part time jobs throughout high school and full time in summer. Last summer I worked two jobs including a paid position with a nonprofit with a similar mission as my volunteer work. I also had an internship with an attorney. I tried to be vague for privacy reasons but thats everything in a nutshell! Good luck everyone!

tomorrow is the big day. Good luck everyone.

Not expecting much but anything’s possible!

I don’t think I’m capable of waiting any longer…

Is there a results thread yet? Those have really helped me and Swarthmore has a lot less results on here vs other top schools so I’d like to share no matter what the result is.

I went to my Swarthmore portal, and my checklist wasn’t there anymore. Does that mean anything?

@gummibear3 Mine’s gone too. They’re probably just updating everything.

I’m just going to refresh the page every 30 seconds until I see something

Not to cause any fear, but my Colorado College checklist disappeared and I was rejected.

ohhhh

We’ve been through 4 of these already. Portal disappears for everyone before results come out, admitted, wait-listed or rejected.

So no results today?
