Swat Transfer

Is anyone else applying to transfer to Swarthmore? Get any confirmation?

My daughter transferred to Swarthmore last year and was notified of her acceptance rather late - maybe the beginning of May, I don't remember the exact date. If you are worried, why don't you call or email the admissions office and ask when you will be notified of their decision.

MotherOfTwo: I'd be really interested in your daughter's "stats" if you would feel comfortable posting/PMing them. If not, thanks for the advice! I did call and they confirmed my app. Which is good because they hadn't mailed anything. Does your daughter like Swarthmore as a transfer student? Did she find it hard to adjust socially?

where did she transfer from, if you dont mind me asking?

I would prefer not to post my daughter's stats, as it is not my place to publicly discuss them. I will say that she did very well academically at an excellent LAC which she found not to be the right place for her. I truly believe that Swarthmore considered the transfer applications in a very holistic way, as far as what they were interested in studying, what they would contribute to the campus, etc. and did not focus primarily on such things as SATS.

Last year, Swarthmore increased the number of transfer students accepted compared to previous years and enrolled 16 transfer students from schools including Berkshsire Community College, Mount Holyoke, Des Moines Area Community College, U. of Wisconsin, William and Mary, University of Pennsylvania, Queens College (CUNY), Barnard, Brown, Kenyon, Williams, Wesleyan, Tulane, Loyola, and Harvey Mudd. Here is a post I made in October which contains a Swarthmore news release about its transfers last year: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=248414

This article about this year's admission process says they hope to enroll 10-12 transfers next year: http://www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/org/daily/index.php?year=2007&month=03&day=30#n1

TerrarumOrbis - I was in a rush earlier and didn't notice the questions you asked in your post. My daughter likes Swarthmore very much - she couldn't be happier - and she did not find it difficult to adjust socially. Her roommate is another sophomore transfer student and her hall includes students from all four classes. She made friends very easily and found it very easy to become involved with campus activities.
