switch colleges

is it possible to switch colleges, seeing as I got into Sixth, but I really don't wanna go there, to the point that I think I'd rather go to Irvine over SD

on a side note, how does UCSD decide which college you go to?

Basically, once you’re admitted, you get assigned to a college based on what you put as first choice versus what others put. As such, it’s much easier to get into a relatively unpopular college such as Revelle or Sixth than, say, Muir.

Unfortunately, it’s really challenging to switch colleges, to the point of being nearly impossible.

Why don’t you want to go to Sixth, if you don’t mind my asking?

I’ve just heard a lot of bad stories about Sixth college in general, ranging from the dorms, food, being isolated, etc

at this point I’m just hoping on USC or Berk

First of all, have you ever visited Sixth? What reasons are so important that you are considering going to Irvine over SD?

UCSD goes through two admission processes. First through the university, second through each college. When the university admits you, it sends your application to the colleges (in the order you ranked them) where you are compared to each applicant for that college.

Really? I’ve actually heard some good things… but hey, it’s your call!

Good luck wherever you end up!

I guess I’m just pretty disappointed right now cause I ranked Muir, Marshall, and Warren ahead of Sixth

Sixth’s dorms aren’t bad, their dining hall isn’t necessarily as close as the others but the food is good, and being isolated? Where did you hear that from? If you haven’t visited sixth and you’re deciding not to go to UCSD because of some stuff you’ve heard, than that’s crazy.

Sixth is a great college with some of the easiest GE’s.
Sure, it may be further away from things on campus, but the campus as a whole is huge so you can find ways that each college is far away from another point on campus.
Foodworx, the dining facility made for Sixth, has some pretty bomb food actually. But taste in food is a personal opinion.
Their dorms are old army barracks which is pretty cool. But the housing in all of the colleges are basically the same with just a different outside look. (With the exception of The Village which is really amazing housing, but it’s brand new, way more expensive and for mostly transfer students)

And I completely agree with KingsElite, basing opinions on other people’s opinions rather than your own is crazy. At least go on a tour or go to Admit Day and see for yourself or something.

eh I guess I’m just overreacting, but yeah I plan on visiting, unless I get into USC or Berkeley

^Visit anyway. I was almost certain I was going to Davis until I visited here. You never know what you’ll find in a place until you visit.

but seeing as sixth was my 4th choice, does that mean I’m some scrub that barely made it and has no chance at berkeley or is there something else, because I know a friend who also got into UCSD but got sixth and he ranked it as his 5th choice but he’s def not a scrub, seeing as he’s got a presidential scholarship from USC

no. when you apply to ucsd, the college system makes it sort of like applying to seven colleges in one (ucsd as a whole and the six colleges). each of the six colleges look for different things in their applicants.

(and for the record, i am a muir student, and i am constantly reminded by our faculty that muir is the hardest college to get into, so don’t be upset about that one. only an average of 3/10 applicants get in.)
