Is it a huge risk if I switch dorms for my sophomore year? I understand that I will be moved to the bottom of the room pick list. I would really prefer a single, and the dorm I am looking at has about 40% singles; if i can't, then I will need to find a roommate. Would you recommend waiting until half way through my sophomore year to switch dorms? I have a lot of friends at this dorm that I'm hoping to transfer to, and I don't like the one I currently live in right now.

I am not sure you have an option to switch halfway through sophomore year. I am a parent of a student so not the best source of information but no one else was responding so I will tell you what I know. The process I am aware of has a short defined application window in January/February. If your application gets all the required approvals, the move is made at the beginning of the next school year in the fall. Check in with the Office of Housing to verify your options if you are not comfortable talking to your RA or rector at this point, but they are also sources of information. I believe you will need the approval of both the existing rector and the rector of your preferred dorm as part of the process.
