Switching Dorms?

Hey, I just got my housing assignment (Bowles), and I accepted the housing offer since it is due next week. Can I still petition for a dorm change in time for the fall move in? Thanks!

If you would like to be transfered. Email housing ASAP with where you would to be transfered to. They will put you on the transfer list. As spaces where you want to transfer to become available, they will email you back and notify you.

do we still get a choice to go back to my old dorm in the scenario we are accepted into a new dorm? haha in case i get like…something even worse i have no idea =.="

I know we have to accept the housing offer, but are we supposed to sign the contract also if we are interested in switching dorms?

Whatever you do, you must accept your current offer or else you will have no housing next year. Once they reply back with a transfer offer, you can either accept or decline the offer and choose to stick with your current placement.

sorry for butting in
btw, i was wondering, is the transfer list on a first come first serve basis? or is it based on whether the person requesting a change has legit reasons and/or special circumstances?

It’s based on availability. If your preference becomes available, you will be able to transfer. Certain preferences are harder to get than others. For example, it is easier to get a unit triple than double because doubles are in higher demand and there are fewer doubles. If you are looking to transfer into a unit, choose a triple to maximize your chance. You do not need to provide a reason for requesting a transfer.

Does anybody have the email for housing?

at the top of my head, it’s reshall@berkeley.edu
correct me if im wrong lol. it’s also in the email that they sent us for housing offer

I got my housing assignment. Do we have to accept the offer? I don’t really want to stay in the dorm that I got, but I have to accept it right? Because it’s either that or nothing.

It is indeed either that or nothing. But trust me, every dorm has its good and bad and you will like it in the end. Unless, of course, you get a roommate who is extremely disrespectful or something equivalently unfortunate.

I feel like so many people ask for transfers and either you don’t get it or you get a worse offer than what you have. So just be happy with what you have because you can make the best of it. Every place is good if you make it good. Every place is bad if you make it bad. Simple as that.

I was just wondering how good Foothills double suite is?

^Foothill doubles are bigger than doubles in the Units and the suite area is a nice living room with a table and a couch or two. Foothill is very ‘homey.’ You share the bathrooms with only your 10 or so suitemates. The only drawback is that Foothill has the reputation of being less ‘social’ than the Units, and it can be very quiet around there at times. But at least that’s good for studying. There are lots of engineers and members of various science majors in Foothill because it’s close to buildings that typically house classes for those departments. Whether Foothill is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ is up to your personal preference.

i applied to transfer to any double, triple, and triple-mini-suite (in units) from bowles haha what do you guys think the chances are?

bansun - thanks! I got a Unit 3 triple but I’m hoping to switch into Unit 1 Freeborn (Substance-Free) double.

If I requested a roommate and we would both like to transfer together, should we both email housing for a dorm change?

^ aww damn, lucky! i wanted a unit 3 triple. lol, i got foothill double suite instead. and yea, i would definitely have ur roommate email reshall too.

aw Foothill double suite is nice! But I do hope that you get to transfer to the room you would like :D

and uh, I just found out I didn’t get paired with my requested roommate, as we both got different housing offers. WUUUUUUUT?!!?!

damn, that sucks! I don’t know, maybe try to email housing and ask why you didn’t get paired up with your roommate?

I’m a junior transfer and I really want Foothill! Consider yourselves lucky to have gotten it.

Does anyone know what the odds of transfers getting Foothill double or triple suites are? I know Foothill isn’t hard to get for freshmen but do they leave some spaces for us transfers?

And what about Stern?

I really like the atmosphere of North campus so my housing preferences are:

Foothill double suite

Foothill triple suite

Stern double

Stern triple

Any

Would you guys say I have a good shot getting at least one of these?

I can’t wait until we transfers get our offers (late June).
