So I'm supposed to take Chem 4B next semester. My Telebears is tomorrow, and nothing schedule-wise is working out.

First of all, I'm interested in learning about psychology, especially from the upper-division courses. However, my interest was also piqued by Sociology 150A. What would you recommend? Psych 1 or Sociology 150A? I'm a freshman, and I do want to take upper-division psych courses later on.

Meanwhile, I'm in a lab section that conflicts with Psychology, and apparently, Shimamura says that lectures must be attended. I'm thinking about switching to the Chem 4B lab section on Wednesday, from 12 to 4. However, that section is full, and there are three people on the waitlist already. I know that there'll be another lab section made to accomodate for the waitlists. However, that such lab section for Chem 4A was from 3 to 7 on Thursdays, which still will be very bad for me schedule-wise.

So I may potentially be enrolled in 4 units, with three others waitlisted. I do know that we have to have a minimum of 13 units. What happens if we don't? I know that your financial aid is affected if you don't have 13 units by the week before the second semester begins, right? What are dire consequences?

if you can’t get into psych 1, and you’re interested in social psych… why don’t you try taking upper div psych courses? there’s psych 160 (social psych), psychology of personality (160)… but you might be put on the waitlist for these too… so sign up quickly.

oh…forgot about that… honestly, I think one can still do fine in the class w/o the prereq if they’re interested in the material… but it’s your choice. talk to those who’ve taken it…

I guess… how strict are professors against skipping prerequisites? Also, the open seats category for psych 150 is full (and I can’t take psych 160 due to conflicts). So should I even try to enroll in Psych 150?

you’re a freshman… take your lower div course (chem) first so that you’re still on track to graduate and then take psych classes later on when you have more time.

So I’ve stayed in my chem lab section (although it has cut of many course options due to schedule conflicts). I’m currently enrolled in 8 units and am waitlisted for two more, including Psychology 150 (although the Open Seating category’s full, I’m waitlisted in a discussion where there are more available seats than students in the waitlist… does that mean much?).

I’ve heard some success stories in which people just take classes without fulfilling the prerequisites. As I’m in the College of Chemistry, we’re supposed to report changes in schedules to our freshman advisor (I think…), not to mention that the college has a form for the instructor to sign in order for the prerequisite to the waived. Does this mean that skipping Psych 1 is going to be much harder for me?
