Switching majors as transfer?

So I was accepted to UCLA, sweet, but I have kinda fallen out of love with the major I applied as. Basically I'm wondering if am I going to be allowed to switch from a biochemistry major to a physics major without punishment, and how hard it is going to be. I am missing 3 classes from lower division(2 math 1 phys), so I realize I'd be lagging. My heart is set on physics, so either way CC one more year is another option. Anyone have any knowledge/experience with this kind of situation here? any info greatly appreciated!!!

That’s something to ask the physics department about since they make the final decision.

I’ve sort of heard mixed messages. It seems like the website makes it really clear that it’s very, very hard to change majors for transfer students, but when I went on a tour of the campus, the tour guide made it sound like it’s not that bad if it’s within the same school (letters and sciences or film or engineering). It’s only really hard if you wanted to be a Film major but you’re currently in the School of Letter’s & Sciences. I would call the department you want to transfer to and see what they have to say.

You probably misunderstood your tour guide. It’s really really easy for someone to change majors within L&S if they are a FRESHMAN. For transfers it honestly depends on the department. Some majors literally will not take any transfers even if they have all the prereqs and get down on their knees and cry, some majors will take practically anyone.
