Switching Majors to Geography?

Hi, I'm a 2nd year pre-political science student and I was having second thoughts about my major. I'm taking the Urban and Regional studies minor and am enjoying that very much, but I am starting to question my interest in political science. I was wondering if I should switch majors to geography, because it seems more relevant to the urban planning field. Ideally I would like to get into the urban planning program for graduate school.

I was wondering if any geography majors could give me any input on the major and what not. Thanks.

I'm not sure if we have too many geography regulars on the board.

flopsy, madeinchina, boelterhall, moldau, kenshin = engineers
namaste, sandkicks, ... = history
bruinboy, ... = life sciences
ckings86, ... = physical sciences

For that, I'd shoot emails to urban planning graduate school departments and see how they feel about different majors applying to their programs. During the interim, if there were any overlapping courses for the majors, I'd go for that. You're already set on declaring a U&R S. Minor, right? How much overlap does that have with the Geography major? After that, I'd probably talk to an undergraduate counselor if I couldn't get more specific and relevant information from CC or other sources outside of my general/generic response.

Which political science courses have you taken anyway? What turns you off from the major? Just wondering!

Yeah, guess I better talk to a counselor... I don't think theres any overlap between the U&R S. Minor, except maybe for one class that I'm already taking (Urban Planning 150/Geography 150).

I've taken PS40 which I enjoyed, and currently taking PS 10 which is not so much fun. I'm probably going to keep PS for at least another quarter and see if I like the other classes.

But really I'm considering switching to geography just because it seems more relevant to the urban planning spectrum.

Modernfuturist, I considered doubling in Geography and Poli Sci, but in the end decided to major in Poli Sci and minor in Geog. I can't tell you whether or not to switch, but I can tell you that PS 10 is NOT a good indicator of other Poli Sci classes....except theory classes at least. I thoroughly hated PS 10; it was the worst college course I've ever taken, including Calculus.

Why are you majoring in PS? It sounds like you're better off majoring in Geog and minoring in U&R S. My advice is try a taking PS upper div class to see if you'd like to continue the major.
