Right now I'm thinking of going in as an Urban Studies major with the intent of going into urban/city planning for grad school. Because it's an interdisciplinary social science major, I know that it's very easy to double/triple major. Can anyone tell me some other great majors that could complement Urban Studies?

Also, is anyone else at Pitt/ going to Pitt next year thinking about Urban Studies? It'd be great to get to know some people with the same interests! :)

I am a Pitt Peer Advisor working at the Arts and Sciences Advising Center, and your most helpful tool will be your advisor, but also your experiences while you are here it Pitt as well.

While you are starting work in your Urban Studies major, it is a good idea to take a variety of classes that satisfy your Gen.Ed, major, and elective requirements. Possibly, in the middle of taking your beginning coursework you will find another interest that sparks it, or you will experience something (ex: study abroad, volunteer experience, internship, etc.) that will also help you to define another supplementary major for yourself.

I encourage you to explore Pitt’s Urban Studies page and also to talk with your advisor and professors about their ideas as well.

I did this major along with Political Science (different college). If I had to do it over again, I would have had my second major in a more analytical/math area such as Statistics or Economics. It would have made me more marketable. However Pitt Peer is right - it is your interests that matter just as much. I would think Architectural Studies would also be a good complement - they have a design and historic preservation track! (sigh, wish I were starting college all over like you!)
