I have been admitted into the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University, but applied to the wrong major. I got accepted into the Communication and Rhetorical Studies program, but need to be in Film, in the Transmedia program. Since I am already in the VPA school, will it be easy for me just to switch to another major?

There should be no reason why you couldn’t. In the 1st week or so you can switch courses. It would be beneficial to take the required core courses for that focus area aside your electives. You just clear it with an advisor.

My Daughter is in process of transferring from a totally different Major. She just needed to take a couple of pre-requisite courses. She will be accepted into the new Major for the Fall. Many students switch focus and SU and the Dept./Colleges/Advisors fully understand that this is part of the process that some students want to go into other areas. Right now don’t worry about it since it’s just a designation for you on paper. At the start of school you go speak to the Dept. Advisor who will guide you as to what you need to do.

Good luck and don’t lose sleep over this. Enjoy SU. My D thinks it’s the best thing that has ever happened to her to be able to get educated there. She enjoys everything about the school!

Thank you very much for your help! I will call them tomorrow to see if I can just change the major now.
