I applied biomedical engineering to UCSD even though I’m really undecided between that and computer science. My logic was that if I were a computer science major, I wouldn’t be able to get biology classes (undecided between medicine and tech field), but if I get accepted for biomed engineering, would I have a problem getting CS classes? I heard CS is super impacted and I’m afraid I won’t be able to switch into the major if I decide against medicine.
Here is a link for changing to the CSE major at UCSD and yes it is not easy to switch.
Computer Science is considered an impacted major so they take students on a competitive basis. If you wanted to switch to computer science, you would have to apply (http://www.cse.ucsd.edu/ImpactedMajor). You would, however, be able to take most computer science class if you wanted to, even if you are not a computer science major. These http://ucsd.edu/catalog/courses/CSE.html are the computer science classes offered by the department, and you can take any class that is not restricted to majors only (listed in the prerequisites), regardless of your major. The classes just wouldn’t fulfill requirements towards your degree (unless your major has a requirement that can be filled by a computer science class).
Okay! I just wanted to make sure that I’d be able to get CS classes to help me decide and my friend scared me bc he’s a CS/EE major who couldn’t get CS classes. Thanks!!!
