Impacted Majors

Can anyone explain this? And will this impact me if my intended major at UCSD is Computer Science/Computer Engineering?

There are only a select few majors at UCSD that are ‘impacted’ (Engineering, Biology) & their inter-disciplines.

To be in any of the above majors/Jacobs School of Engineering, one must be admitted into the major upon entering UCSD (so you must be accepted when you apply as a senior in hs to the major). If you are NOT accepted into any of the Biology majors/into the school of Engineering, you cannot switch into the major once you enter UCSD. If, however, you are in the Jacobs School of Engineering/one of the Biology majors, you can switch out of it, or switch your major between the specific field. (ie: General Biology majors can switch to Biochemistry:Biology, and Biomedical Engineerers can switch to Electrical Engineering).

If you aren’t admitted as a freshman, you can go to your college’s counselor & work out a course plan to work your way to being admitted into one of the impacted majors, but you’ll have to achieve 3.5’s+ for the major coursework, and admittance into the impacted major is still not guaranteed.
