I’m currently a Biology major and in route to receive my associates after Fall semester 2019. However I’ve been thinking about switching my major to Finance due to my growing interest in it and possibly better chances at landing a job straight out of college. I have no experience in either majors yet and have already used 3 semesters of gi bill benefits. Should I switch majors now and change all my classes for next semester , finish my associates in biology than switch, or just stick with biology and hope it pays off? Thanks for any advice!
doesn’t matter - if you’re transferring most schools could care less what your associates is in or what you plan to study. Won’t affect anything unless you’re using something liek VocRehab and have a plan w/your counsellor
Would you be staying at the same university to study finance? If so, I’d switch classes immediately and don’t worry about finishing the associates in bio.
I can’t speak for certain without knowing the classes you’ve taken already and how many can be applied to the new program of study, but I wouldn’t be too concerned with 3 semesters used already. When I finished my undergrad I still had 2 semesters left, and it’s possible most others are in similar situations if they don’t attend year-round (I did the traditional 4 years/8 semesters).
What you should do is pull up whatever website your university has that outlines the degree plans (require classes in the major and/or those in the individual school). See how many of the classes you’ve already taken can be applied as electives or general requirements. Then map-out all the required classes in the business school with respect to which are taken when (some might be spring- or fall-only). That will give you a good idea on whether or not you can still graduate “on time.”
Having said all that, I’m sure an adivser can tell you if you could graduate on time after switching schools. I’d personally bet that even if you had to take an extra semester or two that you’ll still have benefits left to cover it.
