Is it better to switch my major before I transfer or wait until I get into a school? Currently I'm a bio major so i have taken a whole bunch courses related to that but I actually want to do business/finance. I feel as if i'll have a better chance applying as a Bio major then trying to switch when applying to top schools. If I could I would actually double major in both which is allowed generally. Thanks

I switched when I transferred.

I say don’t switch bc it shows that you are passionate in bio and [on their end] shows that you will graduate on time.

bio is often a “restricted” major so that will hurt you if that’s the case for your intended school since it’s very competitive.

good luck!

It’s really iffy and here is why:

Let’s say you’re a bio major which you are switching to finance.

If you apply to a school that is KNOWN for its biology, and your GPA and stuff is GREAT they’ll want you to add to their amazing group of awesome bio people, which will make it easier. Consequently, there will be a lot of other people who want to apply for that same major because the school is known for bio, so it may be very competitive for that major which means you could possibly be rejected just for that, because you are the ‘cream of the bio crop’.

Inversely, if the school is known for finance and you’re bio, they may want you because you’re different and unique.

To stop this annoying paradox this is what I say; take a semester of pure finance/buisness classes and ace them, that way a school will see ‘hey, they can do both and are well rounded, awesome’
