Here's my situation. I applied to CMU's College of Engineering. At the time, I was not very certain of my future career intentions; I've been torn between computer science and computer engineering for a long time now. Either way, I know CMU is one of the best places to go. I have not yet been accepted to the CIT, but I'm thinking about sending an email requesting my application to be for the School of Computer Science. But here are the problems:
- I'm STILL not 100% certain about changing, but I'm definitely leaning toward CompSci right now.
- I'm worried about the change affecting the chances of admission (I don't want to appear indecisive, etc.)
- I'm not sure if this is the best time to change schools... Is it too early? Should I do it after I'm accepted, or will waiting make it seem like I'm using a "back door" to get into the SCS?
If anyone has any suggestions or insights at all, please help me out.

Can anyone help?

Woah, the possibility of 2 beckers in SCS next year? Crazy…

And I am not sure about changing it this late in the game, they do require you write a “why CMU” essay about each of your choices. I would suggest waiting till you hear back at all from them before worrying about this stuff. SCS and Engineering have completely different admission processes I think.

Changing it this late is really not an option. Letters should be going out, like, today. Your best bet is to just complete freshman coursework in your area once you’re accepted and then apply to transfer to CIT if you still want to.

Haha yeah, that is crazy! And I think that you both are right, after thinking about it. The admission committee has been done for some time now, so if I really wanted to switch from CIT to SCS, I should have done it much earlier. I guess now what I need to do is just wait and see what happens, and find out if I can switch schools at a later date.

what r my chances for CMU college of Humanities and Social Sciences???

GPA ( not that great i know): 3.45
ACT (also not that great) : 27

but my dad and his brother went there and I am in a ton of leadership/school activities
do i stand a chance?

Well, schools don’t admit you based on your ACT and GPA only, so it’s hard to tell from just those two bits of information. I’d say you definitely have potential (and the fact that your father went there helps), but I’d have to know more about you to make an educated guess.
