I was just accepted to the UCLA College of Arts and Architecture for the World Arts and Cultures major for Fall 2010, but I'm not sure that this major is where I fully want to commit. Is it possible to switch into a major in the College of Letters and Sciences or am I stuck in Arts & Architecture? If I were to switch, when and how would I go about doing that? Would I need to reapply into Letters & Sciences?

You can switch after you’re in. It shouldn’t be too hard switching into a L&S major, just talk to your counselors.

I don’t think it’d be hard to switch into an L&S major …
But does anyone know if it’s possible to switch into a major in the School of Engineering and Applied Science? I’m undecided-humanities right now, but I know I do not want to do that anymore. I heard that you can switch your major on Orientation Day but I don’t know if I’m allowed switch to anything I want.

You would have to reapply to UCLA HSEAS. I am very confident. You can only switch between LS majors. If you really dislike LS majors, you should probably look into another university. It is a notch more difficult to get into UCLA engineering.

Hm okay I thought so … But would I be able to attend UCLA and transfer during the year if I get accepted? Or do you mean reapply for next year?

Go to school for a year or two and petition to change your major into the engineering school. That means to get good grades in your classes too. Look up the curriculum and engineer GE list for what classes you’ll need for your engineer major of choice. I won’t guarantee that you’ll get in though. Good luck.

Oh I see. Thanks!

If you apply to get in during your first quarter, they may do a review based on high school grades. You’ll have to maintain a high GPA for certain majors and in some cases they may make you wait a quarter or two to see your performance. Check the HSSEAS OASA site. (Office of student affaris0

According to UCLA College Academic Counseling:

Students leaving the School of Arts and Architecture must have the School of Arts and Architecture approve the Change of Academic Program petition before submitting it to the UCLA College.

I am an Art major, but I want to become a student in the College of Letters and Science. Can I do that and if so, how?
Yes you can switch into the College of Letters and Science. You need to come in and talk to a counselor at the College of Letters and Sciences.
