Hello,

My son got accepted at USC School of theater for BA in theater program (with presidential scholarship). He also got accepted at NYU Tisch for BFA in Acting program.
He wants to be focused on Acting only which NYU Tisch BFA Acting program would offer.
He's interested in USC only IF they offer him BFA in Acting since BA in theater is more of a 'generic' theater Major.
I would like to know as to how we would pitch a case with USC so that they could offer him a BFA in Acting instead of a BA. USC is a better choice for me as a parent, financially, with the big scholarship being offered - NYU did not offer much in terms of scholarship money.

Did he audition for the BFA at USC?

If he did audition and wasn’t offered the BFA at USC, I don’t know how you could possibly pitch any case. When a school doesn’t accept you into their school or a specific program, there is not much that can be done but to accept the decision.

If he didn’t audition for the BFA at USC, why not, if he seems to prefer a BFA?

Find out if he starts out as a BA at USC, if there are any options to audition after the first year to move into the BFA track.

That makes sense. Thanks for your valuable input.

Hi Collegedadba -

Here are the stats for the current classes at USC (except the senior class, which I don’t know :))

Junior - 2 BA transfers (entered into that class as sophomores)
Sophomore - 1 BA transfer (entered into that class as a sophomore)
Freshman - 1 BA transfer (was a Spring Admit BA 2010 and entered into the freshman BFA class Fall 2010)

These students re-auditioned for the BFA in February (along with everyone else auditioning) of their freshman year.

Hope this helps!
