symposium cafe

what do you guys think of the symposium cafe in durham? its pretty close to campus.

Umm...it's small and cute I guess...decent, but there are plenty of comparable places you can go. I've only been there once though, so someone else may have some better comments. However, it's a good venue for smaller, more intimate events like sorority semi-formals and whatnot.

That whole American Tobacco complex it's in is WONDERFUL! There's a bunch of restaurants (like Mellow Mushroom!), the Durham Bulls stadium is right there nearby, and it's a cute place to hang out:)

what other good cafe/bistros are there in durham?

Sweet, I did not know Durham had a Mellow Mushroom!

yeah, there's a shroom

unforunately, there are no chipotle's in the entire state of nc. shame that. hopefully it'll be rectified soon.

haha...i went to mellow mushroom for the first time when i was visiting Wake and loved it! there's one where i live but i haven't ever been to that one...when i visited duke, i went to The Loop, which is on campus, and loved it...it's a sandwich/salad/pizza place...it was great!

Umm...well my personal favorite place in the history of mankind is Maddhatter's, which is within walking distance of East Campus. Wraps (Chicken Caesar wrap EEEK!), noodle bowls, sandwiches, coffee, and THE best cakes/cupcakes in the history of the world. It's a really nice place to just sit and work as well. I literally ate there once a week last year, and I would way more now if we could still order on points!

There are some other random coffee shopish places around too...none that I've been to.

There are a lot of sit down places off campus, maybe not cafe/bistroish, but there are tons of cool places like Mt. Fuji, Chamas (Brazilian steakhouse), Kanki, Nikkos (greek), Pop's...some pricier than others...but nice for a sit down meal. Then there are the usual chains around. Brightleaf square is a great place for restaurants/things of that nature...so definitely check that out. Then of course Durham has the usual chains.

On campus there's a Saladelia, which is a cute wrap/coffee place...very nice for dinner or coffee in the morning! One of my favorites!

Basically, whatever you're looking for, you can find it here! (except chipotle...obviously a great tragedy...)

WAIT, obssessive_22, are there really no Chipotle's in all of NC's? NOOOOOOOOOOOOO I eat Chipotle like every week!

...guess that means I'll be making the 2 hour commute very often...

xactly what i mean metal.

it's a real shame. i eat there like 2x a week too :( myb we'll make that commute together.

We're trying to put together a good list of some of the restaurants folks go to (among other things); the beginning of the list is at http://www.duiki.com/wiki/Category:Restaurants. If you're a MediaWiki person, any help would be greatly appreciated, too :)

Their website says that there's one in Winston-Salem and one in Raleigh.

LOL.. duiki

Yah i've been to the Chipotle in Raleigh before.

I actually really like Symposium and have been to several sorority events there in the past. For cafes/bistros -- I really like Verde which is a nice place for a simple dinner (birthdays?) with great drinks, it's right next door to Parizade which is one of my fave restaurants in the area. Another Thyme is great... There's actually incredible sit down sort of pricy restaurants near campus (Nanas, Magnolia Grill, Vin Rouge, Pops etc etc etc). I'm blanking for other great places... but actually, there's so so so much to eat near campus and most of it is really great.

wow, so there are - it's been a while since I checked the website.

yay, driving to raleigh is relatively short!

Wow ok I had no idea there was a Chipotle in Raleigh...probably because none of my friends know what Chipotle is...now I might just have to go...often

I've never heard of Chipotle... care to enlighten me anyone?

the best burritos of all time. great chips. cheap. really healthy - except for the portions. :)
