I recently took a glance at the type of essays on the AP English Language exam, and I thought the new "synthesis" essay looked similar to a DBQ from the AP U.S. History exam. What do you guys think?

Taking both classes last year (but with no synthesis on lang), I DEFINITELY agree. It's like the same thing, except in English form. I think if anyone has taken apush or another exam with DBQs, the new synthesis essay on Language will be a breeze.

Wow, I hadn't even heard of that. It's just language right?

That will make that part of the exam SO much easier. Man, now I wish i was taking it this year. It'd be way easier to get a 5 (at least for me, I will have had all the AP histories).

It sounds just like the DBQ's from history.

sigh oh well. Lucky juniors.

I'm pretty sure it's just language. But life, it will probably make it easier for some, not everyone... having no dbq experience, and getting handed seven + excerpts and random images for the first time.. fun, fun.

Well I don't mean to brag (like most ppl here), but I think that might be a good thing for me. I'm not a junior, so I'm thinking of retaking the AP Eng Lang and Comp because I got a 2. I remember the DBQ from the AP U.S. History exam, and I honestly think that mighta been my best essay. That part probably helped me pass (barely).

We also did a DBQ-like practice essay in my AP Spanish class. It hasn't been implemented in the actual AP exam yet but they've been testing it out/considering it.
