Syracuse Class of 2026 - Waitlist

I just called today and they said the waitlisted will hear in June. That is ridiculously late. I guess it’s time for my daughter to move on.

no idea ngl

Just wondering if anyone placed on the waitlist has been offered a spot yet?i know that Syracuse indicated that would come after June 1st but I know that sometimes schools start to reach out before the May 1st deadine - even when that’s not what they officially say.

We haven’t heard anything here. We committed to Ithaca college last night. I imagined a big excitement when he finally committed but it just felt disappointing and frustrating. Soooo hard to get excited when the school he really loved is still even the tiniest possibility.

Haven’t gotten off the waitlist. My daughter wrote to her admissions officer a week or so ago to add some items to her application (she won an award since then) and the officer wrote back a very nice response and also said financial aid (should she be offered a spot) is still a possibility. So she will stay on the waitlist longer but I think we should commit to another school now as well.

Just curious, for discussion sake, if anyone has any idea how waitlists are looking at all schools this year. I have heard kids are applying to many more schools than in the past which would seem like it would create lots of waitlist offers. But we’ve also heard so many students took a gap year or deferred enrollment from previous years that maybe they just didn’t have as many spots. Based on these threads in past years Syracuse made waitlist offers as early as April but also all through May. Does anyone have any stats or odds or info on 2022 waitlists in general or at Syracuse?

Right this is making me upset

This is the question.
WSJ article last week called this year the most competitive on record. Other articles are about schools touting their low acceptance rates this year. But if the applicant pool is similar AND each student applied to, say, 15 instead of 10 schools, then there will be fewer commitments as a ratio of applied. (right?) So that should open up spots. I am looking… researching… asking…

Found this so far – in 2019-2020 academic year, Syracuse put 8,859 on the wait list. Of those, 3,138 said okay I’ll wait. Of those, 611 were admitted. 20%

I recall reading somewhere else that the schools have a general 20% wait list intake, but I can’t find the article at the moment.

Of course, we don’t know what schools Syracuse they were admitted to, etc.

Here’s an interesting article from Brown. Interesting how many were put on the wait list as a percentage of those accepted. –

If I’m reading it right, they got a record 50,649 applicants and of those 1,651 were offered spots. The article says they expect to put 1,000 to 1,500 on the wait list. Hard to draw parallels between schools and all of that so I’m just wildly putting data together here to chew on. But I’m wondering if schools are increasing wait lists too because of the deluge in applications? Sigh…

Waitlist for CAS here.
Have been searching for some stats regarding number admitted per school but not able to find anything. You can estimate it by taking the approx total and dividing by number of schools but that will be rough as some schools have more openings than others.
We are just ready for this to be done so we can try to enjoy Senior Year!

Could you share what program or any stats if you don’t mind?

Congratulations and Thank you for sharing. Yes that is my question. What program was she accepted off the waitlist for?

Congratulations! What school did she get accepted to and how did you find out?

She received a text message asking if she was still interested in getting off the waitlist for the discovery program at Strasbourg. She said yes and a few minutes later she received an acceptance letter. They gave her 5 days to make a decision but we still don’t have financial aid info. If she accepts she will go to France her first semester and then attend the college or arts and science. I hope this is helpful. Happy to answer anymore questions.

Is the general assumption that they either over enrolled and are making no waitlist calls this year, or just none that are reported here? Is today the day we give up hope?

Any luck getting an answer?

I’m also waitlisted for CAS (SU is my dream school!)—but idk if any replies are coming back ‘til after June 1st. I was talking earlier with a current SU student and she said that Syracuse is just one of those schools you hear back the late from (whether it’s early/regular decision or waitlist).
Also, I sent in a LOCI and a letter of rec from one of my current teachers. I hope that helps me to get in! :crossed_fingers:

I was also taken off the waitlist, but on the 25 of May! I frantically accepted the offer, they told me my financial packet will arrive soon, but I would have 10 days to choose if I wanted to be officially admitted. They didn’t mention anything to me about the discovery program, even though they stated on the waitlist offer that I would have a guaranteed spot if accepted. The fininacial aid isn’t as good as I wanted it to be, but it is better than what I expected from Syracuse. I could talk to the financial aid and abroad program offices about my questions, but I finally realized that the college that I enrolled in is way better than Syracuse(University of Dayton) since it suits my needs much more. Maybe it was cognitive dissonance that was making me try to justify why I should go to Syracuse, or the fact I wanted to just not live in Ohio anymore(lol), but I decided to change my decision and not attend. This may have been my ‘dream’ school, but I know I would be betraying someone special to me that is also attending UD. I hope everyone else can get accepted and I wish the best college experience to the class of 2026!

Congrats! It must be a relief to feel like you know what you want and are confident in your decision! SU was a dream school of mine but I’ve since moved on as well. I do have a cousin who was also waitlisted and she still has hopes to get in. Do you mind if I ask what school you were admitted to and if they texted you or emailed you?
I hope you have a great 4 years ahead of you!
