Syracuse Football

I’ve always recognized Syracuse for it’s outstanding basketball program and the school spirit displayed inside the Carrier Dome. Can anyone comment on football? What’s the atmosphere like, tailgates, etc.? Our daughter has been admitted for the Fall and we’re interested in going to some games. Thanks.

The past two years, football has been the stronger program, and my D actually attended more football than basketball games. There are definitely tailgates, etc. It’s a great atmosphere. Try to get to the Clemson game if you can — that’s the big one, due to a Syracuse victory in 2018. That game is happening on homecoming/alumni weekend so if you are interested, get tix early and book your lodging. There will also be a game during Family weekend. I have heard that there will likely be discounted family tickets, though that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Thanks! Dino Babers and the Orange football program look like they’re finally turning the corner. Hopefully, the positive trend continues. If daughter attends, we’ll shoot for the Clemson game…Should be fun, right? (gulp)

Do hotels in the area fill up and are the nightly prices increased on weekends with home football games? My son was admitted we have already made reservations for parents weekend in October and, as expected, hotels seemed pretty full already and prices were increased for that weekend. In comparison he was also admitted to VaTech and every home football game weekend hotels in Blacksburg and surrounding towns book up and prices are outrages. He’s planning on attending SU and I was just curious about the football weekends there.

Yes, the hotels book up for games quickly and prices can sometimes double or even triple. I have found it best to book hotels that are refundable up to a few days before arrival, the minute you think you may want to visit. You can always cancel. I think the Sheraton on campus actually does lotteries for big events like family weekend and graduation at around $400/night. It’s crazy.
