Syracuse Transfer

Anyone applying as a transfer for the fall? Wondering when the notification date is.

Hey @lscrewedupinhs11 I am also applying as a transfer student.

On their website it says that they start giving decisions on rolling basis starting the end of February.

I am! I was wondering about this myself but I’m thinking it’ll be after I send in my midterm report which won’t be until mid March…

hi guys, i am thinking about applying to transfer to syracuse u this fall, too. also, i thought they dont require midterm reports for transfer :slight_smile: http://admissions.syr.edu/apply/transferrequirements/
does anybody know the gpa for transfer?

@ transfer0815 I don’t think you need to send midterm reports for Syracuse.

I talked to an admissions director that said some applicants won’t have to send their midterm report but it all depends on the strength of the applicant… no idea how that’s determined

Oh okay so if you are not required to send them then that’s actually a plus. Did they tell you needed to send them after getting your completed application? @transfer0815

I emailed admissions and asked and they said they like to have the mid year grades and he attached the form to the email but that was a few months ago so it was before my application was complete. If I don’t hear back by the beginning of March (which I’m guessing I won’t) then I guess I’ll have to send the midterm grades.

@SupaDupaFly5

@transfer0815 oh okay and yeah I hope that all transfer decisions come out before March but like you said that is probably unlikely.

Hey @SupaDupaFly5 and @transfer0815 !

I applied for transfer to Syracuse for the Spring semester and I actually got in but I had a few personal problems arise in my life, thus ending in deferring my enrollment. Talking from experience, last semester was my first semester in college so all I was submitting was that semester, SATs, and high school grades. I don’t think I would’ve been accepted with just my high school grades and SAT scores, so I sent in my mid semester grades, too. I was never told to send them in, but during my interview she did suggest it. So it depends on how many semesters of college you have under your belt.

Since I am taking classes at my local community college this semester I technically have to “re-apply.” Which means they just open my application for the Fall and I was told I would hear back mid-march. I do know they start sending out notifications at the end of February, but notifications go out in different waves. For the Spring I didn’t hear back until a week before the semester was supposed to start. Sometimes depending how strong your application is they want to see your final grades at the end of the semester (like they did for me). It’s basically a waiting game, but my advice is to call admissions over emailing them. Due to all the RD students, the admissions email is overflowing with emails and I didn’t hear back from my defer email for 3 weeks. Definitely keep in contact as much as possible with admissions.

Hope this helps!

I hope you don’t mind me asking what your stats were when you applied as a transfer to Syracuse? Also what your major was when you applied.

Also thank you for sharing your experience it was helpful.

@SupaDupaFly5 I have the old SAT so all together it was a 1550 which isn’t good at all. I don’t know the exact number but my high school GPA was around 3.3-3.5. I didn’t take any AP courses in high school. My GPA at the end of the semester was a 3.88. I was honestly shocked I got into Syracuse for the Spring because they didn’t have many spots open. I applied for the Political Science program in CAS and Maxwell and I got a $10,000 scholarship along with it.

I did really well on my interview so I think that gave my application a boost. Syracuse is really big on the “well-rounded” student which I was in high school and still am. So if you have good extra curriculars, work, play sports, and what not definitely have that somewhere on your application.

They also consider personal situations and if something happened in your life that can have an impact on your grades. They were very generous and understanding with my situations that arose in my life. I never came across a school that cared so much about the inidividual applicant. I recommend setting up an interview if they still give them in the Spring. My interview was supposed to only be a half hour and it ran almost an hour.

If I only used my high school stats I most likely wouldn’t be accepted, so they really consider college stats.

I may call tomorrow. Rutgers got back to me within a week haha I hope this isn’t too long.

@Iscrewedupinhs11 syracuse’s process is a bit slower than other schools. did you call? and if you did what did they say

Not yet. I’m going to give them till the end of this week and then I will ask, not a big deal.

@transfer1124

@transfer1124 thank you again for sharing your experience. I did visit the school ,but I did not interview I guess it is too late now to do so.

@SupaDupaFly5 anytime! I was encouraged by an admissions counselor to visit the school and go to the information sessions because it shows your interest in the school and such. They do take that into consideration with your application because you cared enough to take time out of your life and visit.

Has anyone heard back?
