same as Lauryn @mmorley31
Honestly I’m starting to get REALLY impatient and annoyed with Syracuse’s admissions process… It seems like they don’t do anything in consideration to their anxious applicants lol. [-( I did EDII for the CAS pre-med program. My GPA, ACT score, and work experience had me pretty confident in general (since CAS is pretty easy to get accepted to unlike Newhouse or Whitman) and since ED has a higher acceptance rate. My best friend who I want to dorm with, had applied at the same time to the same program… His GPA is the same as mine but his test score is significantly lower than mine (and way lower than Syracuse’s average) but he got accepted on Friday… I know that the Admissions team reiterates that they’re releasing the notifications in no specific order through early February… but why do they have to do it in such an unorganized and nerve wracking way? Literally everybody is extremely anxious and I know of so many people who have called the offices or emailed them just to get the same response lol… I guess I’ll just have to continue waiting. For anyone who’s curious, my best friend’s (the one who just got accepted to CAS pre-med) stats are: GPA 3.6/4.0 and his new SAT score was a 1050. He has no AP’s but has some honor’s classes here and there and some extracurriculars. My GPA is also a 3.6/4.0 and my ACT composite score is a 27, I also have a full time job in the medical field… accompanied by some honors classes and extracurriculars. My recommendations were pretty good as well. Guess it’s time to continue playing the waiting game.
@gal2021 @LaurynMV i got deferred too??? i don’t know how this happened? i applied newhouse first choice, but arts and sciences second??? i am so disappointed
I just got deferred as well and I honestly cannot stop laughing… My friend got accepted to CAS on Friday… His test score is terrible, he had no AP’s whatsoever, and barely any extracurriculars. My test score was disturbingly higher than his, I have a FULL TIME job in the medical field (with about 1,000 patient care hours), and my recommendation letters were pretty on point… yet I got deferred? After he had been accepted, I was almost POSITIVE that I was going to get accepted, because a lot of the schools that I applied to and got accepted into, had rejected him or given him less scholarships… Therefore, I’m honestly thinking that Syracuse is trying to make their demographics a little more well rounded this year. I’m caucasian and my friend is black and hispanic and at this point I’m thinking that may have helped him out a lot… Don’t be too disappointed, I’m sure we’ll get in through Regular Decision, especially since I’ve had straight A’s senior year.
Yeah I got deferred from CAS with a very good overall application. Pretty mad
My son applied RD and we live close to Sacramento
Hi there,
For you guys who said that their Admission Acceptance Form section changed in myslice, can you please describe it? Cause in mine the overall layout changed, and that specific section disappeared but when I refreshed everything was normal again like the orange layout came back.
@admoz6 when you’re accepted, clicking on the AAF opens a new form which you can fill, save and submit.
@Christian137 you’re overly confident. Obviously, everything happens for a reason. You might’ve had amazing grades and all but grades aren’t everything and you shouldn’t be super sure in the fact that you will get in during RD and shouldn’t be comparing yourself to your friend’s success… and I doubt that it is based on demographics because I was deferred with a 3.7/4.0 gpa and 1220 SAT, great ec’s, reccs, an outstanding essay, and I’m black. Just putting that out there.
I’d agree with @LaurynMV, @Christian137 . Every application is more than just your grades, recs, etc. They look at you holistically, meaning your personality, attitude etc. everything counts. There are many people who are slightly below the mark but again they have some other hook. But hey, you can stop laughing anytime and withdraw from rd if you think cuse is so biased.
My son applied for regular decision
Got into Whitman today (RD) with $25,000 merit + honors.
30 ACT 4.0 UW 9/431 Rank plus varsity sports
I actually got a 33 on ACT in February but the latest score they accept is 30. Do you think I should bother writing an appeal for more money? I can’t go if I get $25k (which I know is already a lot).
Same! I got the Whitman/Ischool dual degree and the $25,000 plus honors! So excited. I’m going to repeal and try to get more money because I know I dont get need based but I don’t know if I should do that now or when I see a financial aid package. Syracuse is still my first choice and I will try anything to go there.
@ally22 what do you mean the latest score the accept is 30???
@paparent106 not sure where my mind was when i was typing lol. i meant the latest score they accept was january, and the highest score i had at that point was a 30
@ally22…got it. I wonder if you would have received more merit with your 33. Child #2, who is a junior, also took the ACT in Feb and also scored a 33. She will be applying in the fall (not ED) and will apply to the CAS, with a dual program for either Newhouse, Whitman. Praying for an invite for Coronet.
@NkechiNicole @paparent106 My understanding is that other than the Coronat the highest merit aid offered by Syracuse is $25,000. Therefore you have to hope for need-based grant for more money to make it affordable.
@ally22 You are fortunate that the maximum merit aid of $25,000 was given to you for a 30 ACT–that score is in on the low side for purpose of being competitive for the $25,000 scholarship. Either Syracuse considered your 33 in February or you had other outstanding aspects to your application, including a very high gpa in a rigorous course curriculum.
@trackmbe3 They didn’t count the 33, I didn’t even try to send them to SU at that point. The phone call I got after my acceptance mentioned my position as Varsity Lacrosse captain, involvement in Senate & NHS and me working
I was deferred from early decision to regular decision a couple months ago. Does anybody know when I should hear back and what my admission chances are now?
@bengie15 same! I was deferred from ED II in January and I feel like we’ll hear back later
