Syracuse University Chances

I’m a High School Senior and Syracuse is one of my top choices but a reach. If someone could offer some insight on how to approve my chances in applying or let me know what my chances of being accepted are at all that’d be great.
-SAT 1190 (took multiple times and by far is the highest I’ve gotten)

  • GPA around a 3.1
-2 AP’s senior year and honors courses all 4 years
    -4 Year sport
-Mock Trial and Debate Team all of High School (also member of National Forensics League)
-Yearbook, Youth Action Counsel, Big/Sisters Reach-Out Program
-Internship with a local business where I built and designed a website, did product inventory, marketing, advertising etc.
    -Multiple Art Awards
-I’m applying into Graphic Design and am planning on submitting a portfolio. I’m interested in majoring in UIUX too but have little to no knowledge about the program for it at this school
-Hundreds of volunteer hours (Was a volunteer camp counselor for three summers at an all girls sleep away camp and children’s nature camp
-really strong recommendation letters and essay in my opinion
    -plan on applying mid October
I know my grades and SAT score fall below the margin but I’m hoping the rest of my application will make up for it?

Basically what I’m trying to find out is if Syracuse is a reach school for me or just a flat out impossible school.

I think you could get in your SAT is average and gpa a depending if that weighted or un weighted could make it reach. You definitely have a chance.

The graphic design major is at the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse right? The Newhouse school iis very competitive. The freshmen Newhouse class is only 400 students. I’m sorry but I don’t think your grades and SAT are high enough. I don’t know much about Graphic Design so maybe the portfolio has a lot of weight but I think you would have a better chance of getting in if you applied to the liberal arts school (College of Arts and Sciences).

I believe Graphic Design is in New House but I ended up applying into Communications Design in the the College of Visual and Preforming Arts. And the College of Arts and Science is English, History, Religion, Mathematics etc. None of these majors have anything to do with actual “art.” VPA is the liberal arts school, not Art and Sciences. And thanks for your input but I got accepted yesterday… this post was from awhile ago

Congratulations on your acceptance. so happy to hear that. VPA is the art school but Arts and Sciences is the liberal arts school. That’s what English, History, Religion etc. is … liberal arts. VPA is a great school. Good luck in whatever
choice you make.
