did anyone else not here back yet? do you know if they are sending any out tomorrow or anything? i haven;t gotten anything…

I heard all would go out by 6:30pm today EST, admin etc gone tomorrow through the rest of the week.

on the website it says admissions closes on monday dec 26th…not tomorrow…im confused

Much success to you–I hope you’re right

I heard from SU around 3:45 EST. I got deferred from Newhouse. And I heard right before swim practice so it made swim practice not fun. I’m really sad I didn’t get in, but good luck to everyone else.

If you were deferred, that doesn’t mean you didn’t get into Newhouse. You just have to wait until March to find out.

Got my acceptance letter to newhouse’s broadcast and digital journalism program on the 16th SO PUMPED! My only question is which dorm do newhouse kids stay in ?

Freshmen aren’t grouped in dorms corresponding to their department; it’s a random lottery for everyone (i.e.: You roommate can potentially be someone from Architecture or CAS)

Sorry for the double post, but I just logged into MySlide and went to “My Financial Aid”, and they listed the aid they offered me! You should all log in and check!

I just don’t know what any of this means; do you guys think they will offer more if/when we file FAFSA, or is this the maximum amount of aid they will award regardless of filing the FAFSA?

Yeah, I got an email with my offer earlier today! Very excited! And yes, I believe we could potentially get more money once the review the FAFSA.

yep I got deferred today as well from the Bandier Program. Very disheartening but I’m trying to stay positive. Just need to do really well this 2nd semester to show them I’m worthy. I’ve wanted to be in this program since freshman year.

I’m going to call and ask about the fafsa thing after the office opens again.

I sincerely hope that we will get more aid when we file FAFSA.

Just curious, but do you subtract the amount of aid from the total cost of attendance? Or is the total cost already the total with the awarded aid?

You take the award and subtract it from the cost of attendance. The difference is what you and/or your parents would be expected to contribute. The big thing to look at is how much of your package is grant aid (doesn’t need to be paid back) and how much is loan aid (needs to be paid back). I was quite pleased with my daughter’s package, although I am still hesitant to see her take on so much debt. If she attends SU she will owe $28K after graduation. Anyone know if this is a typical amount of indebtedness? (We still don’t know what local and private scholarships she might earn – those could lower that amount.)

That makes a lot more sense! I thought the total cost was with the aid included, it just didn’t make any sense. I at least feel a little more confident that we can afford it (pending scholarships)!
