I really need helping deciding where to go. I got accepted to Syracuse's dual enrollment at Whitman and the iSchool. If I go there I'd have to pay around 16k. My other choice is Baruch Honors; full scholarship with a 1,300 stipend and laptop. I'm from nyc, so if I go to baruch, that means i'd be staying at home. I've always been wanting to experience that campus feel and dorm somewhere, but money is an issue afterall. I'm not exactly sure what I want to major in yet; perhaps one of the business majors.

So I'm having trouble debating whether to pay thousands for that college experience as well as graduating with a dual degree at SU, a free ride at a commuter college, or go to baruch and then transfer after a year (but then i'm worried about the credit transfers and that hassle of applying to colleges again). It's basically a money vs. traditional college experience conflict.

The new ischool program with Whitman at SU has a 100% placement rate after graduation and has the highest starting salary for grads of any school at SU…your $16,000/year will be well worth it in the long run…if you are still doubtful, call the ischool and ask for job placement stats; they are ridiculous…

Im from NYC too, go to Syracuse and enjoy campus life. I go to cc here and I hate it. It feels just like hs. Do me a favor and go, you won’t regret anything except having to deal w/ alot more snow than NYC. lol

Business is a degree where it may be ok to take out some loans, because you are expecting a relatively high paying job.

However, only you know the exact amount of loans you’d end up paying (if any), and therefore only you can weigh the costs-benefits here. It may we worth it to take out a minimal amount of loans, but it would not be worth it to take out 16K/yr in loans, for example.

Though that’s the most important and final line, other small considerations would weigh in. Ex. how much would you have to work during the school year and summers? Would that compromise your “college experience” or your grades? Etc.

(You can get dual degrees at almost all colleges…I do not think SU provides an academic leg-up in that sense)
(Also, 16K is very cheap for SU! I got the biggest scholarship they had - besides the Coronet - and I was still paying around 30K or more)

I’m from NYC and I’m guessing youre talking about Macaulay? Even though it is a great program I dooo think Syracuse is alot better, and you should take into consideration the job placement/eventual salary you would be getting from SU. Good luck on deciding!
