Whitman School of Management... any good?

I got into Syracuse and there's a good chance I'm going but it'll depend on how reputable the business school is at SU. I'm going to major in finance and possibly minor in something else. Any perspectives would be appreciated... thanks

yes its good. right now i can either go there and pay about 29,100 a year, or go to SUNY Buffalo basically for free. Syracuse is more prestigious and has a much better athletic/social environment and overall campus, but for someone like me who wants to go to law school i dont really want to have to make my parents pay all of that money. april will be a tough month for sure

My daughter and I visited Whitman twice and were favorably impressed with the courses, faculty, internships, emphasis on teams and networking. It has made USNWR’s top 50 business schools in the past two years. Syracuse’s current president is certainly out to make SU a prestigious institution. That being said, it all depends on your other choices.

TwoParent, has your daughter had any trouble in terms of job placement/internships because of the recession? Also, if you could, please describe how the economy is at Syracuse the city itself. Thanks

My daughter is a high school senior planning to attend SU in the fall for a dual degree at Whitman and Newhouse. She will be turning down acceptances in the business schools of Fordham, Tulane, PSU, Elon, and many others to show you how favorable our impression was. On our visits it did sound as if most of the internship connections were during summer and between sessions. There were plenty of local internships, but not as quality an experience as the distant ones. Syracuse is a depressed city and SU has just recently realized that it needed to make an investment in the city for a win-win situation. This connection is a major goal of the current college administration and has made for some good community service opportunities.
The Newhouse senior we know has had wonderful internships but is, like many college seniors, having trouble getting a job. Just for comparison though, my NYU junior son has sent out over 80 internship applications in NYC for the summer and has only heard back from 4 - all unpaid. NYU has not been particularly helpful in his efforts either. So I think the economy is taking its toll everywhere.

thanks alot

Well, I remember that SU’s Whitman School of Business is ranked 49th on some list I once skimmed online. The primary reason I’m considering its business program is because I can basically get a free ride there and that I was chosen as Dean’s Scholar, which adds up to my scholarship money. (I got into other colleges too.)

I visited the school last year. Its business building looks brand new and everything is upgraded amenity and technology wise. The entrance and lounge floor are very spacious and sleek.

So even though it’s my safety school, I would still recommend studying business at BU. A lot of people in NY know that SU is a loaded school with a good reputation.

freudian slip? did you mean “SU,” not “BU” ???

Correction

I meant SU, NOT BU.
Typo
