do you think i even have a good chance of getting into UCSC?

will my chances get higher if i apply with an early binding decision?

SAT is pretty good. I’d say 50/50 because of gpa. And theres no early decision for ucsc.

The University of California neither solicits nor accepts letters of recommendation, except on admissions appeal (after being rejected).

50/50?

sigh… i guess if a student with the same grades and SAT scores that i have, applied 1 or 2 years ago, they would have been accepted for sure. however, because of the economy and the recent cut back on admissions, im probably going to struggle to get into ucsc straight from highschool

I think so you have a good shot. Your gpa is higher than mine was when I applied (3.1), and your SAT scores blow mine out of the water (1840). But then again, I applied when it wasn’t so impacted and I took 9 AP classes. I had more extracurriculars though. It really depends on your course load. I wouldn’t worry about it too much. My essays sucked.

You have good SAT’s scores (the average for the school is about 1770) however a lower GPA than average. Is your GPA weighted or unweighted? If it is unweighted what is your weighted? The average weighted GPA was about a 3.7 for last year incoming freshman. However based on the info you provided i say it is about 50/50 since grades do count more than SAT however if you have an exceptionally high SAT score and that you do than maybe it might cover the low GPA.

wait the average GPA was 3.7? i dont know if that’s right cause collegeboard said that the highest percentage of students had a GPA between 3.25 and 3.49…?

I’m pretty sure average weighted GPA was 3.5-3.7 range I’m not sure about unweighted and if the one on college board was unweighted.

its weighted because if you look at ucla and cal, they are over 4.0.

and i agree with pinkvgirl because on all the websites and books ive looked at, ucsc has a higher percentage of people below 3.7 than 3.7 or higher.

UC Santa Cruz uses a specific comprehensive review point system for admissions.

Enjoy. Last year’s cutoff was 5,425. This year’s cutoff should be a little bit higher due to cuts and such, probably settling around the 5,500 range.
