I am a 2018-2019 Senior and I would love to attend UCSC next fall but I don’t know if I can get in. It would be really helpful if someone could tell me what my chances are or if I can do anything that would give me higher chances. I am in-state as well. Thank you!
SAT 1250 but I am taking it again and aiming for a 1300 or higher
Weighted GPA 3.89

Community College classes since sophomore year- Digital Imaging, Digital Illustration, Sociology, (Passed all with A’s) and I have Astronomy and Philosophy planned for this year
I work 25 hours/ week as a Youth Development Professional at my local Boys and Girls Club in the summer and am on call during the school year
Member of Key Club and Link Crew
On the school’s snowboard racing team which is a 15+ hour/week commitment, with a team 1st place at State Championships in 2017

I also have a passion for art and I am very committed to it- I don’t know if that makes any difference but I thought I would mention it.
Welcome to College Confidential.
First question is your weighted GPA, your capped weighted UC GPA since that is what UC Santa Cruz will consider?
Here is the calculator: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Average UC capped weighted GPA for this year’s Freshman class was 3.96. You are below the 50th percentile but above the 25th percentile.
Your SAT score is below the average but bumping it up above 1300+ could help your chances.
For 2017, the admit rate for a UC GPA capped weighted of 3.8-4.19 was 75%. I would say you are a Match if you can increase your SAT score.
Best of luck and below what UCSC considers important in their application review.
- Very important: Academic GPA, Application essay, Rigor of secondary school record, Standardized test scores, State residency
- Important: Character/personal qualities, Extracurricular activities, First generation college student, Geographical residence, Talent/ability
- Considered: Volunteer work, Work experience
- Note: Test scores, GPA in required subjects most important. Personal statement very important.
- Admission Selection:
Important Note for Prospective Engineering Students: Choice of major does not influence the selection of first-year students, except for those applicants interested in a major offered by the Jack Baskin School of Engineering (BSOE). Freshmen who are interested in a BSOE program should be sure to indicate a BSOE proposed major. Students who do not indicate a BSOE program or who apply as undeclared might not be able to pursue a BSOE program.
I got into UCSC this year!
My gpa was 3.7 weighted
my sat was 1260
I had nearly no extra curriculars
major is comp sci (most competitive major)
but keep in mind i went to a pretty bad school so it made it easier for me to get it.
good luck to you, you seem pretty qualified!
Hi, what was your unweighted gpa?
