Hey, all my fellow TAG applicants. Whether you were looking to save a lot of money by going to two years of CC or ****ed up a first year of school somewhere else (heh, that’s me), TAG is a great way to go.

I’ve got a few questions though:

One thing that sucks about UCSD is that there is zero housing available for transfer students, compounded by the fact that the college is in freakin’ La Jolla, one of the most expensive parts about UCSD. What are my fellow transfer students doing about finding roomates, and where are you guys looking? What about transportation and the ability for us to park on campus for classes?

Everyone seems to have strong opinions about the different colleges, but they seem to revolve around who has the nicest dorms. Since I can’t live in them, is there really a difference anymore besides being forced to take classes you may not want to take? My counselor recommended Warren College, but she was a computer science major, and I’m going into Econ.

What’s it like going in in Spring? Is it awkward, showing up midyear? What can a transfer student do to get more involved in UCSD life?

I’d just like to say that, as much I may hate governmental regulations and bureaucracy, I am personally in debt to whoever decided that the TAG program would be open to people with previous university credit. I know it must **** some of you hyper-overachieving guys off, but after a year of 2.3GPA, I’ve achieved a 3.8 this last year and I’m going to make good. It may sound kind of stupid and corny, but I’m so happy I live in California where they give people like me a second chance to attend a first rate university… any other state in the union (just about) I’d be flipping burgers for the rest of my life.

Try going into Warren/Muir. They have the easiest/least amount of GEs. However, if you fulfilled all of their GEs you will still need to take 2 quarters of writing. Not sure how hard Warren's writing class is, but I hear Muir's is pretty tough.

1.) check out craigslist.org and search the housing section for available housing options/roommates. there quite a few apartment complexes around the area and new condos are constantly being built so finding a place to live shouldnt be that difficult. Do start early though, dont wait til a month b4 school starts to find a place to live. Doubling up and finding a roommate to live with is a good idea if you wanna save money.

2.) I dont think it matters which college you get into, they are basically all the same, just a difference in the GE's. But since you're transferring, you'll most likely have most, if not all your GE's taken care of b4 getting to UCSD.

3.) Showing up in Spring is not bad at all. Its the start of the new quarter so feels the same for everyone, no matter which quarter you enter. Everyone is willing to meet new ppl at the beginning of the quarter and are more open in a sense. Keep in mind that there's a grip of transfers coming in with you, so you wont feel awkward as you mentioned. the only bad part is the living offcampus situation. it'll take a while getting used to especially if you lived at home while you went to cc. you'll be alright. there are clubs and orgs you can join, theres even a commuter's org that plans events strictly for commuters. Get involved with that if you'd like.

i hope i answered some of your questions, feel free to hit me up if you hav ne other questions about ucsd. Oh and dont diss burger flippers, In n' Out managers make an average of 100g's a year. That aint chump change my any means. hahaha

I'm coming from MiraCosta. I'm finishing up my Math and my Econ 102 this (Fall) semester, coming in during the Spring. I heard a lot of people like to wait until Fall but I'm sick of living at home and I just want to get out and live college life while I still can.

What about finding roomates? I know you mentioned craigslist, but for every chill person on there, it seems like there's 10 creeps. Is there an on-campus board (that I can check out even though I'm not technically a student yet)?

Also, I forgot to ask my counselor... after my contract is in, when do I submit my app? Does it matter what I put on my personal statement? And when should I expect to get my "big envelope" before Spring 2007?
