TAG, or the Transfer Admission Guarantee, is probably the best way to get into any UC that is not Berkeley or UCLA by ensuring early admission into the UC of your choice by means of a contract between yourself and the school. According to the UC Davis : TAG FAQ, you can 'start your fall 2011 online TAG as early as July 1, 2010 at the new University of California website.' That sounds pretty awesome, right? So, let's talk about it. ;)

Personally, I don't know very much about it--I just thought this topic would be a good way of helping us potential Fall 2011 transfers to understand better how to maximize our chances of getting accepted. I know I need the help. >_> What would be great is if people who have made a TAG in past years tell those of us who are interested about how the process goes, how they felt about it, and so on. Did it help you or lessen your stress any? How much help will we need from our CC transfer centers in making one of our own? Any potential ways to screw up other than failing to fulfill your requirements?

For those of us who are interested, what UC and what major are you going for? I'll be doing one for International Relations with UCD as sort of a safety, which means I'll have to submit it by September. Since the FAQ promises that applicants will be notified no later than November 15th, it'd definitely make for a great Thanksgiving if I were accepted. :D

Sorry if the OP is a little sparse on actual information; the links are a great way to start, and I'm hoping for lots of knowledgeable people to share what they know!

To qualify for a TAG for fall 2010, the following specific required courses must be completed by the end of spring
2010:
Those required for UC eligibility (such as English and mathematics)
Those required for admission into selective UC Davis majors (such as calculus for the Biological Sciences
major)
Those required to complete 60 UC transferable semester (90 quarter) units

I currently have a 3.77 and have >30 units completed.

question: for AP exams, does anyone know if we’re to do ALL exams we’ve done, or just the ones that are 3 and higher? (for a UCI campus, preferably)

@christian612 - i’m not quite sure about DAVIS, but the other UCs require a requisite of at least 30 units at the end of SPRING 2010, and 60 units at the end of SPRING 2011. you might want to check it up if that correlates with DAVIS.

okay, so i have. a quick question, because i totally didn’t think there would be a drastic change to TAG. but there’s a mention that there needs to be:
has completed the last 30 semester or 45 quarter
UC-transferable units at one or more California community
colleges, excluding summer sessions and AP/IB
credit;

I did have a question though, I am mainly filling out the tag to get into UC Davis. I will have completed all of the required curriculum for UC Davis only. I would however like to apply for a tag for other UC’s even though I have not completed their required curriculum should I go ahead and apply for the other UC’s anyway or will that in anyway harm my chances at a tag for UC Davis for which I will have completed the required curriculum?

Anyone trying to TAG as of now without knowledge of any counsellor? Is it a bad idea to fill an application (won’t submit yet) without a counsellor, or should I wait till I meet one?

Just completed my TAG application, and now I’m just waiting to submit.

I made sure that I completed the prerequisites for the majors I’m applying to for each UC (via Assist.org).

@iZychr, it’s fine if you complete it now. We don’t submit it until September 1st (as simplistical stated earlier), so you can edit all the information up until then by going to “My Information” or “My Coursework” if you submitted the wrong grades or something. And after completing it, you can go to a counselor (if you want) and then review it.

You can fill out most of the TAG application but not only does a counselor have to sign off on it, the Transfer Director from your CC has to as well and they send it out.

Last year I tried doing it by myself but I went to go see a counselor just in case and she laughed, lol.

Oh…and whoever asked about the the AP exams, it’s only the ones you received a score of 3 or higher…which are the only ones you get credit for at your CC anyways.

Sync101, so you want to have multiple TAGs, right? I’d assume that your TAGs with the other UCs would include finishing up whatever requirements you haven’t completed for those campuses. I mean, I would assume since you’ve apparently already finished your major prerequisites/IGETC for UCD your TAG with them would only be about maintaining your GPA. If there was any harm at all, it would be for attempting multiple TAGs–can we really do that? What I took from the Fall '10 crowd was that we can apply to other UCs while still having a TAG, but I don’t remember anyone having more than one TAG.

I didn’t finish my pre-reqs for my majors yet. I will be getting them done by Spring 2011. Does that mean I cannot apply for TAG? I heard I was allowed to list the classes I will be taking throughout Fall 2010-Spring 2011, but on the TAG website, I can only list the classes I have already took.

I finished the IGETC math requirements, but I still need to take Calc 2, 3, linear algebra, and differential equations. It says here, “Both of the UC English courses and the UC math course must be completed by the end of Fall 2010, prior to Fall 2011 admission.”

If I got a 2 on one of the AP tests I took in high school, do I have to put that in the TAG?

If I took classes that are not transferrable to a UC, do I still have to put that on the list of courses that I took?

just a repeat question - because i’m not entirely sure i was as specific as possible: the 30 units required for completion by the end of Spring 2010 can be fulfilled using AP credits, yes/no? because i’m receiving information left and right that TAG is excluding AP exams for unit completion.

1) You’re in luck. You can do TAG just as long as you have your English/math done by the end of the fall semester. Your major prereqs may be completed through spring :).

2) Your linear algebra/calc/diff. equations are all major prereqs. Depending on the school, you may or may not need all of those done by the end of spring to get a TAG. UCSD, for example, normally doesn’t expect the incoming class to have all of the prereqs done for a TAG (being that there are always tons). Some of the other UC’s, like Davis, are more strict about TAG fulfillment though.

3) AP tests do NOT affect your admission whatsoever. It has nothing to do with whether or not you receive a TAG. The option to put it there is just for records and nothing more. Seriously, it won’t hurt you. Just put it.

4) The Non-UC-transferrable courses do need to be listed on your application, but on your TAG sheet, I’m pretty sure you do need to put them as well. I don’t think it would be a big deal if you didn’t, but I would include ALL coursework just to ensure accuracy.

@ simplistical: AP tests are normally not accepted. Seriously, those created so many problems this year. Kids were being rejected because they thought they were receiving AP credit, when they weren’t. Consequently, it looked like they were missing a prereq. Some AP’s may work for you, but I certainly wouldn’t bank on it. Verify with EACH UC that the AP scores you received will count towards completion of that qualifying college course. Honestly, those AP scores just complicate things. I would just shoot for 60 college units straight up - if that’s possible. Also, you need 60 to transfer, but I think that’s what you meant.

Btw you guys are all asking really good questions! I Tag-ed to 3 schools this past year. It’s definitely a phenomenal system! Take advantage of it, and make sure to check off the boxes on your app about TAG.

i’m…twenty-five units short, and plus the English exam I took fulfilled the requisite for their English is another concern. so now i’m severely concerned (dramatic? y/y.), since I was banking on being able to TAG to get accepted. i’m pretty much checking on all my resources to get this confirmed - CC’s one of them.

I guess I’m sort of confused. You need to have 30 unit done by spring 2010? Where does it say that? I looked at your link, but I couldn’t find it :p.
