TAG; major guaranteed?

So I am about to TAG UCSB for econ. Now, I know for UCSB the major econ is not guaranteed as part of the TAG agreement. Does anyone know what that means specifically; like I have heard two ideas; 1. You are just admitted to pre-econ and have to take some classes at UCSB where if you get satisfactory grades in those classes you're in for econ :)

The other theory I have heard is that UCSB will grant you admission to a select number of students for econ and the rest will have to choose another major outside the econ department, one that is less populated :(

Anyone know the specifics about this issue?

Pretty much both are correct. Once you get to UCSB, you will have to take Econ1A and pass it with a B or higher. If you do, you get full major status, if you don’t, you have to choose another major.

Okay, thanks for the reply. Just to clarify though, if I TAG UCSB for econ, I am at least guaranteed the shot to take Econ1A?

Yup! Oh, and the class is called Econ 10A not Econ1A. My mistake

Quick question for you guys. If I apply for TAG but the calc class that I’m taking doesn’t appear in the assist webpage, does that mean I have no shot of getting in?

I’m taking Bus Calc in the spring instead of regular calc. I noticed that for econ and acct you can just take a statistics class and a calc class.

@migman

Can you reiterate your question please? Can you give me your specific situation (what major, where you’re signing your TAG to.) Would love to help.

If you apply TAG to UCSB for Econ, Econ/Acct and have a 2.75 GPA in the pre-major courses that you have completed by the end of the fall semester (micro,macro,calc 1 & 2, or stats) with the intent to finish any remaining pre-major courses in spring you will be admitted to the Pre-Econ major. Anyone who takes and meets this criteria will be admitted to the major. Full major status is dependent on successful completion of any pre-major courses after transfer to UCSB with a 2.85 GPA. This could be just Econ 10A for Econ majors or Econ 10A and remaining accounting courses for Econ & Accounting majors.

@Migman, which CC are you at?

I am currently at Imperial Valley College. I will have completed all of the pre major courses by the end of fall except for Bus Calc which I will take in spring for other schools. The thing is that on assist, only regular calc appears in the calc section.

I have a 4.0 gpa for what it’s worth. The reason I’m asking is because I don’t know if I should use my TAG on UCSB or UCD
