UCSB TAG agreement

Hello everyone,

I created my account today because I have a question regarding the TAG agreement for UC Santa Barbara. I am an an accounting major at my current college and would likely try to get into the Economics and Accounting major at UCSB.

I have a 4.0 G.P.A, decent e.cs, and have completed almost all of the classes that appear on assist.org. The thing is, I have been following the pattern for UC Davis' Economics major which allows me to take a class called Intro to Calc w/appls (commonly referred to as Business Calc in my school). In assist.org, it appears as if UCSB only accepts Calc 1 from my school which I wouldn't be able to take in the spring.

So what I want to know is would this mean that I am ineligible for both TAG and regular admission? Or is there some leeway with unfinished courses that appear in assist?

That’s strange…I looked up my CC to UCSB for Econ/Acctg and it says you can either take the BusCalc series or regular Calc series.

Anyways, from assist.org regarding transferring:

This means your major doesn’t require you to have certain courses completed before transferring. Now regarding TAG requirements, the only requirements you have are listed here at the bottom:

http://admissions.sa.ucsb.edu/pdf/UCSB%20Fall%20TAG.pdf</a></p>

If you have completed those requirements, your TAG should be accepted.

Thanks osiq! Well, I suppose I’ll just go through with it anyway. What do you think would give me a better shot at getting in with business calc instead of regular calc: through TAG or just regular application?

It really doesn’t matter! TAG is designed to force students to keep the GPA high and be on track with pre-reqs. You are currently on track, whether that means taking Calc or BusCalc it shouldn’t make any sort of difference in your TAG.

If you are already in BusCalc right now, finish up the series. No need to switch to the Calc series. Even if you haven’t started a Calculus series, I’d still recommend taking BusCalc since it is easier and you have a better shot at a higher grade which is ultimately your goal with TAG/applying.

Are you a community college student? TAG is only eligible for CC students.

This is not true for the Econ and Accounting major at UCSB. On assist.org

My mistake. Yes, it does say that you do need a stats+calc, or 2 calcs.

Nonetheless @migman, you’re in good shape as long as you finish up that BusCalc series.

Thanks you guys! I think I’m gonna use TAG on UCSB and just apply through the regular process for UC Davis.
