TAG question!

Hi guys, I’m planning to apply for UC Davis through TAG next year. I will have 32 units at the end of this fall semester.

Reading through the requirements I have a few questions:

“Domestic and international students who are enrolled full time at any California community college spring 2015 through spring 2016 are eligible for a UC Davis fall 2016 TAG. Eligible students must have completed 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units, including units for any AP and IB credit, by the end of summer 2015. At least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC transferable units must be completed at one or more California community colleges by the close of spring 2016 to meet the required UC definition of a California community college student.”

  1. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, within the spring 2016 and spring 2017 school year I have to complete 60 transferable credits to qualify TAG?
  2. My other question is, say I'm planning to transfer as mechanical engineering major which requires a lot of prerequisites. What if I didn't complete all the transfer prerequisites but I did accumulate enough of the 60 transferable credits? Will I still be eligible for TAG?
  3. Another question is that can I start working on my prerequisites and by the time I apply for TAG, say I already have a total of 60 transferable credits then I will only have to complete the remaining 30 units within the spring 2016 and spring 2017 spring ?

Thank you for taking the time to explain!!!

You need a total of 60 UC-transferable by the end of spring prior to transfer. It is cumulative, based on all your units combined.

You need to complete whatever is required of the major by spring.

UC Davis TAG requires full-time enrollment (12+ semester units a term) that last fall and spring, unless you have a good reason. The decision is at their sole discretion, which is not a great phrasing, in my mind. It might be better to go light next spring to keep up a full-time status next fall and spring.

It won’t make any difference how many units you get at the CCC. They will transfer up to 70 semester, and then the rest will fill subject requirements, as applicable.

If you don’t need any more req, consider some lightweight courses to boost GPA.

Thank you Lindyk8 for your answer! So say if I do engineering major, I will have to finish most of the prerequisites before applying TAG? because I don’t think I could finish all the prerequisites within one year?

You should finish all required and as many recommended as possible. It’s highly competitive.
