Oh my. I’m jealous. In VA we had snow days from school last week. We’ll have cherry blossoms in four weeks or so. Enjoy them then fly east.
If you’re not a fan of crowds, there’s a nice little grove of cherry trees by Rainier Vista that bloom beautifully this time of year too. I think they’re a little nicer as they’re a more vibrant shade of pink, and the branches are close enough to the ground for people to see individual blossoms at eye level (which is pretty cool).
I agree, Coriander23. Those are beautiful trees. They seem to bloom a little later and last a little longer than the trees on the Quad, and the color is much more vibrant. You can see them in the webcam over Red Square: http://www.washington.edu/cambots/camera1_l.jpg (although the color settings on this webcam do not do them justice). There are so many lovely groves and peaceful wooded areas on campus with flowering trees and shrubs, such as the Grieg Garden near the Jackson School of International Studies.
Peak day is today!
