Im taking math 16A this semester but i just find it too easy and want to switch to the A series. I know I took IB math SL instead of AP so I prob cant waive 1A, but can i still take 1B without 1A? thanks.

sorry are you expecting others to know what math 16A means and to have some special encoder ring when you don’t list any useful information?
What may help is stating your grade (ie freshman), school (ie Berkeley), class (ie Differential Equations), and level you are at for starters. Unless you can test out of 1A I don’t see why they would let you in 1B without taking 1A first. That is why they have an A and B usually.

@kmazza: people here do know what Math 16A at Cal. I honestly don’t get why you have to be so rude.

@shl:how well did you do on your IB? I’m taking Math 16b, and it is rather easy, but if you’re going to do something like Pre-Haas, I would recommend you stick with the 16 series (unless your major is going to be math-oriented). I heard the Math 1 series teachers are much more rigorous and proof oriented. I had a friend that got a 5 on the Calculus BC AP, and she was taking 1B this semester (switched to multi). She said the teacher was pretty bad and she was really confused. But if you really want to take the A series, I would facebook Finding Yourway-Frosh and ask since they’re way more informative about these kinds of situations.

First you probably mean 1 series and not A series as it’s 1a and 1b vs 16a and 16b
Second, you can definitely take 1B if you want without 1A. 1A is just differentiation and more proofs whereas 1B is integrals, series, and one other thing I forget. Still a bit proofy in some areas, but generally much more calculation I felt.
Now whether you should do 1B is obviously up to you, but it is pretty difficult (well difficult may not be the right word, but I found myself having to do a lot of practice problems, which is really the most efficient way I think). Lectures can get pretty useless if your teacher sucks/has a heavy accent, so just make sure you know the concepts and how to do the problems.
Last, I don’t think you get any credit for 1A if you’re taking 16A right now and pass it, so you’ll have to go to 1B anyway. (Probably want to look up that information to make sure I am correct).
