I've taken the old SAT once in November (1280). the question i have is should i study alot towards old SAT probably get into 1300s or 1400s+ and then only take the new SAT once or should i not take the old one again and take the new SAT twice. this is important since my GPA is 4.0 unweighted and im ranked 1/1050 and i'll be looking to get into good schools.

Did you get the question and answer service (if it was available)? If you did well on analogies, you might want to retake the old. If you did better on critical reading, your best bet might be to wait.

Also depends on where you're applying. The UC schools only take the new SAT and I think a number of other schools do, too. You can study a lot for the new SATs instead of the old SATs, it's what I would do. They're not all THAT different in terms of format, so it's really not that big of a leap studying for the old sat to studying for the new one.

Check this out http://www.collegeboard.com/newsat/hs/require.html : all the schools here now want new SAT ONLY; man, that's alot of school!

wouldn't SAT II writing meet that requirement though? or the new ACT (though I doubt many want to take that)

The math on the new SAT is much more extensive and the verbal section has been completely revamped, so I don't think the SAT II writing will meet the requirement.

some of the schools from that link take both. Yale was on that list but on their website it says they will take both.
