Take Writing SAT II?

Is it a good idea to take the Writing SAT II if I'm a junior and will take the New SAT? I don't think I will do super super well on the SAT II, but when I take the New SAT in March/May/June, I will have a lot more prep, so I will most likely do better. So is it ok if I have a low Writing score on my SAT transcript but a high one on the New SAT? What if it's vice versa (high on SAT II, low on New SAT)? Thanks!

Hasn't the registration deadline for last writing SAT II already passed?

The SAT II writing test is kind of nasty, and is best taken (IMHO) as a senior. If you can consistantly score over, say, 700 on the practice tests, go ahead and take it.

I would definitely wait for the new SAT. The writing SAT II is being discontinued anyway, so the new SAT will cover the same things as the SAT II currently does (I think). It is better to just get a good score on the writing portion of the new SAT than to have a low SAT II score.

I already registered for the Writing SAT II, so not taking it would mean losing 54 dollars :(.

But, I am scoring above 740 on all the Sparknotes test and even got 760 once, and getting ~10 on essays. So I will likely do okay on the SAT II, but should I take it if I would get say a 700 or so on the SAT II and then later something like 760 on the New SAT, or should I just not take the SAT II and just take it w/ the New SAT. If I do really well on the SAT II, though, there is a small chance I might not even take the New SAT since many colleges I emailed said they will accept both for at least some time.

bump...

What would a ~740 on the MC part and a 9 on the essay get you? What about a 10 on the essay?

Somewhere between a 720-760, depending on the essay. Looks like you can break 700 anyway, so go for it. The essay advice in the PR book worked well for my son - 12 on the essay. Good luck to you in January. If you can avoid the new SAT and concentrate on your last couple of SAT II's your senior year will be a little less hectic.
