Taking 5 classes each quarter?

I'm planning on transferring to UCSD after my freshman year at UCSC (for personal/family related issues), so would taking 5 classes per quarter be okay with the administration? I'll be taking around 22-24 units (yes, I won't have a life, but I can't really do much about it), and i hear that 19 is around the average for incoming freshmen. Would my courseload be technically possible? I'm obviously willing to put forth a tremendous amount of hard work to achieve my goals (heck, I'm even going to CC full time over the summer to get more units, instead of taking those 3 months off).

Thanks for your input! :D

A full time frosh generally takes 15 units. 20 units would be allowed on a case per case basis, and basically never for first quarter freshman year. 25 units is a colossally difficult proposition.

Why not just go full time to an SD feeder community college instead?

I see. Actually, I just went over my schedules with my advisor for Fall 2012, Spring 2013, and Winter 2013 and right now I’ve narrowed my list down to 4 classes/quarter (Calculus, Physics, and 2 Electrical Engineering courses). That gives me around 21 units which according to my advisor, won’t be a huge problem. Is 4 classes do-able?

I know of juniors and seniors who have taken that many units at once…never freshmen. Adjusting is hard enough. Unless you have a very good reason, you’re blocked from taking more than 19 units your first year anyhow.

21 units is okay, but dude, transferring from UC to UC is haaard. I don’t think it’s worth it.

Did you also include CORE for your first semester?
