Taking a duel enrollment Physics class to substitute for AP Physics 1

So, I’m planning on taking a dual enrollment class for the entirety of my second semester in which I’ll be completing/receiving credits for AP Physics 1. Thus, acting as if though I took AP Physics 1 sophomore year since I received college credit (plus GPA boost) and since 1 full semester at my local university is equivalent to 2 semesters at my high school (pretty much for everyone). Is this a perfect solution? To solve my dilemma? Since I’ll now be taking/receiving AP Physics 1 credit as I took the actual class? Let me know guys’ (Basically because of my schedule, I wasn’t able to take a science yet I’m taking AP Bio next year and then AP Chem Senior year. However, will this work and will I receive credit for AP Physics 1 as if I took it this year?)

Is the DE physics a lab class? I think it will work, as long as there’s a lab component to cover your bases in terms of some selective colleges’ requirements.

One DE semester in DD’s school is equal to one semester of high school, so the 1:2 ratio isn’t always the case. Still, given the rigor of what you are proposing, I think you will be okay. Get your GC’s input too.

@Groundwork2022 Thanks! I appreciate it. Yes, you’re right. I’m quite sure that it will be a lab-based class. As for the ratio, it’s actually, for where I’ll be applying for DE, 1:2. Thanks for your input.

What dilemma do you have?
What are you taking that would prevent you taking a science class?

@bopper I said it in the parentheses.

@bopper per an earlier thread, OP has several band electives and isn’t taking a science class this year, sophomore year.

@Mwfan1921 I am now :slight_smile:

@Mwfan1921 And I will also intensely prepare for the AP Physics 1 test. Especially since I’ll be taking a dual enrollment physics class at a local university to receive the credit and substitute it for AP Physics 1. Problem solved :slight_smile:

OP, yes, I knew you had added the de class, I was just getting another poster up to speed as to why you did that. FYI, there are a couple of other newish threads regarding DE grades and you should read those, but bottom line grades in DE classes will be on your college transcript. So they will impact your college gpa which could negatively impact med/law/grad school admission if the grade is low.

Lastly I would look into how well the college physics class aligns with the AP test. I am not sure how beneficial taking the AP test would be if the DE class doesn’t adequately cover what’s on that test.

@Mwfan1921 Yes, of course. Hopefully it does. As for the grade concerning class, it does worry me if I were to not receive an A or at least a B+ due to its rigor. Especially since it’s a DE class. Thanks for your input. Time to grind!

@Mwfan1921 I meant A-. Not B+. Haha
