On the commonapp, it tells me to state why i took a gap year...........
what do i write there?
do i sincerely write that its because no schools accepted me (i did get into safety schools but didnt want to go there?)............... or would that sound dumb and unwise?

What am I supposed to write in that space? my honest answer or is there another answer?

I’m not sure. I mean, honesty seems good, but I don’t know how well that will reflect on your application. Are you applying to the same schools as you did last year? What did you do during your gap year?

im applying to same and new schools. i can double commonapps so that i can write different reasons.

i taught a few kids and worked basically the whole summer (i plan to continue).
plus, i cant go to a community college since i dont even live in the states.
i live outside my home country so im even more confused as to what i can do where i live…

i know honesty is good but im not sure whether it would be the best excuse here.

I suppose that what I’m getting at is that if you have a good plan for your year, you could say that you took the gap year for that reason. It’s unlikely to “fool” schools you already applied to and were rejected from, though.

Reason: “Personal difficulties and special circumstances.”

They might question it, but in the end…does it really matter?

Or you could just say “Financial difficulties, pursued work as well as tutoring/community service.”

^ Personal difficulties and special circumstances will piqu

miss_murd3r - I am definitely not an adcom. I was implying that adcoms are not stupid. Glad we cleared that up.

It was a rhetorical question.

OP; please post what you end up doing; I’d be curious to know which route you take.

Thanks so much guys.
Well, where i’m from, taking gap years is more common than going to community college. There isnt community college where im from (or i havent heard of any at least). When i raised up community college to my parents, they asked what it was and then just told me to take a gap year (beacuse thats more common).

Then my question is this: on the common app, it asks if my education was interrupted and if yes, state what it is.
I check “did/will take a gap year”, then this pops up.

To upload a document in response to this question, please click the ‘Upload Document’ button. If your upload is successful, you will see a ‘View Document’ button and a ‘Delete Document’ button appear.

Should i upload a document or not?
If it’s safer doing so, should i just list WHAT ive done during this year or in addition, add WHY i took a gap year?

Over the summer, i’ve tutored some people. Once summers over, i plan to do some community service if i can find.
What do you guys think? It might be an excuse but i cannot find proper job or community service opportunities with my age (i’m a bit young here).

You could write an essay as an attachment expressing that it is mostly common to take a gap year as opposed to going to a community college (which don’t exist, according to your post). Then, you can go on to say what you did and how you spent your time. A 500 word essay should be more than enough. Good luck! :)
