Just wondering, do people ever take their laptops to class (to take notes) or do they keep it in their dorm?

Probably a stupid question, but I have no idea. :P

Just wondering, do people ever take their laptops to class (to take notes) or do they keep it in their dorm?

Probably a stupid question, but I have no idea. :P

Yes, many people take laptops to class.

I see people taking laptops to class all the time. I personally don't do it, because I would not be able to focus at all, but some people find it easier to type notes (or "multitask" by playing on Facebook while the teacher lectures).

I have taken classes at three colleges, one large state university and two small liberal arts colleges. At the state university it was common for students to take notes on a laptop (or play games). However, at the two small colleges I have only ever seen one person taking notes on a laptop, except in computer science classes. So I guess it varies.

Yes, they do. I take mine to one of my classes, because I can type faster than I can write, and it's a lot of information. Plus, it's neater. :B For that class, quite a few people have their laptop, actually.

However, I've seen people with laptops during my math class. C'mon. There is no freaking way they're taking math notes on that thing, unless there's some way that I don't know. Why even bother coming, then? Yeah, they might be recording it or something, but I doubt it. Math is just not a subject in which you can use a laptop to take notes.

i take my laptop to all my classes and have all my notes there. it's my way of going green. the only times i have to use paper is when i have to print assignments out. for one class though the professor talks so fast that it's hard to get some of what he says. then in one of my other classes the professor talks at a regular pace and sometimes i can type every word he's saying as he's finishing up the sentence.

Pathetique, have you heard of TeX? It's a typesetting system used quite frequently in math and sciences. It is fast and powerful enough to let you take math notes on a laptop.

I try not to take my laptop to class because I can't focus and get less than half of what is being said, but it's sometimes necessary for my computer science class.

So yes, some people take laptops, but many don't because they don't want to have a low grade for a stupid reason.

I was worried about this too originally!

I take my laptop to any class where I actually takes notes (much neater, way faster.) So do many others. Most of the time the other students around me are actually taking notes- this being the classes where the notes aren't posted online or where notetaking is actually beneficial (the occasionally facebook check only if the the prof goes way off-topic.) Of course none of my lectures are mandatory attendance anyway.

It's funny. I've used, at most, a couple sheets of notebook paper this semester. However I've gone through printer paper and ink like no tomorrow printing off articles/notes/assignments/slides. Crazy!

b@r!um, No, I haven't, but I figured there's probably something out there for that. That's pretty cool, though. Either way, I doubt they were using that.

Especially because you could see they were on facebook and such. :B

I only take it to one class. Because in this class, the primary study material is the lecture and he talks really fast and nothing gets written on the board. I type faster than I can write. There's no time for Facebook or anything like that, everything he says is important and unless he says, "Don't write this down I'm not going to test you on it," then everything is free game for the final.

I do, depending on the kind of class. Classes that are almost all lecture? Always bring a computer, it's a lot easier for me to take notes that way. Classes that are small seminars? Never (I like to look at people whil they are talking). Classes that are in between (25-40 people with some discussion)? Depends on the class.

Get a tablet. You can use it for any kind of class -- type or take handwritten notes, draw, even record lectures. Makes it easy to be completely digitized.

I dont bring my computer and i think most people dont. it is so annoying to hear typing all the time.

I suppose it depends on the school. At my old college, nobody brought their laptop to class. At my current college, some (though very few) students do.
Personally, unless it's a computer or engineering related course, I think it's a bit weird.
