Do colleges generally look down on taking a test in the same subject more than once, or does it not matter if I take it twice?

It’s okay if there’s a huge improvement, like from a 680 to a 750, but if you’re trying to improve an already high score (let’s say 770 or higher), colleges will probably raise an eyebrow.

^ Will they really? Cause my parents want me to retake my 790 Math SAT II for an 800 -.- It goes without saying that they’re Asian.

Can’t you choose which test dates to send?..

Hahaha

I seriously doubt that colleges will look down on your 790, but then again, I’m not an admissions officer.

^ That’s what I keep telling them! I mean, I don’t think they’d reject me solely on the basis of my lowly 790… college admissions aren’t thaaat black and white. Hopefully :)

Yeah, it definitely seems like colleges are placing more and more emphasis on extra curriculars and less on test scores, though tests scores are still important.

@sententia you can, for schools that allow score choice.

If my first choice allows score choice, would it be a good idea to retake subject tests even if it might hurt my chances at other schools?

Would retaking in november be too late? coz im taking SAT 1 in oct…

^ Haha, me too! Well, if you’re applying ED, for some colleges, the last month you can take an SAT test is November, but you must rush your scores to them.

I don’t think colleges will see someone retaking from a 790 and actually hold it against them. Perhaps they’ll think the student is a bit of an overachiever, but its not like theres anything that could possibly negative about wanting to retake a test and improve your score. However, the officers will probably not care much about whether you have a 790 or an 800. The difference is 1 wrong answer, and it won’t be the reason why you aren’t accepted.
