Taking a transferable math course the Spring before transfer.

How is that viewed by the UCs? When I submit my apps this November, I won't have any transferable math classes passed with a C.

No big deal, you won’t be qualified for TAGs with some schools tho

Yeah, I’m taggng with UCSC. It’s the last school I want to go to but the only one I can TAG to.

awww Davis plan dissolved?

Indeed dear chum. :(

But Davis actually allows you to take a transferable math course the Spring before transfer as well (like UCSC). Davis is dissolved for TAG because I was a part time student last Spring.

The good news is that I’m applying to UCD thru general admissions as an English major with all prereqs completed (for my school); incidentally the only prereq being English 1A lol. No courses articulated for the rest.

Assist > Chabot College > UC Davis > English A.B.

so will you apply regular admissions?

& WHAAA! wait so was I! i just submitted my TAG, i remember you asking about this now.

but do you think even though i have a somewhat stellar GPA that davis will reject my TAG? i even am taking all the P.Science pre reqs to my major too!

I have just submitted my TAG to Davis. I was also a part time student sprung of 2011. My counselors said not to worry. But you should have noticed that before you submit your application there is a page where you have to check a long list of things you agree to so that they know you have been thorough. One item said something like “you have been a full time student spring 2012-spring 2012 or you have given an explanation for your part time status?” So I looked at the first page of my TAG and there was a place for additional info if you wanted to add something. That’s where I put my explanation for my part time status spring 2011. Once again, my TAP counselors, who have been very good, said not to worry about it.
You should submit a TAG even if you were not full time spring of 2011. Just give a good, concise explanation (work, illness, family emergency, etc.) and you should be ok.

Davis says “30 semester / 45 quarter; must be enrolled full time spring 2011 – fall 2011, exceptions possible for part time” on their TAG matrix.

^ Emphasis on “exceptions possible for part time.” I think the exceptions they’re talking about is taking care of family or a job.I didn’t have any, I was just trying to take it easy.

I still haven’t submitted my TAG, I’m going to go over every little detail with a counselor on Wednesday and submit it on Thursday.

The fear of having my TAG possibly rejected is more than enough to make me hesitant for Davis. UCSC seems like the sure bet. I’d be a lot better off if I had finished math earlier but whatever.

I wish you good luck kitty, hop it goes through. Maybe talk to a counselor about it?

well i mean who’s one to say you didn’t have to help your mom or grandma or a family member then? “you don’t have health insurance” so you can’t take em to the hospital.

and I’m guessing you don’t work?

I’m working now, just wasn’t last Spring. Maybe I can come up with a clever ruse for UCD to get around that part time student barrier.

I am just saying that both TAP transfer counselors at my ccc say it is not a huge big deal They will have personal interaction with the Davis transfer admission people and have repeatedly told me not to worry about it. I think I was taking about 8-9 units in the spring.

You can get a “waiver” for part-time enrollment for Davis:

To find out who the Davis rep is for your CCC, look on [UC Davis : California Community College TAG Contacts](More Information)

Thank you AskMsSun. My counselors have repeatedly told me not to worry about my part time status in the spring of 2011. They will personally work with the UC Davis representative and work on my behalf. Doing TAG make your situation much more personal and the counselor with really work with the UC Rep and make it all right. Thats why mine tells me not to worry…so I’m not!

And THANK YOU for posting the link about UC and CCC reps. So many questions here could be answered if the people would go through the transfer counselor at their ccc or the UC Davis rep for their school. I have met my rep twice and know my transfer counselor on a first name basis so I can be confident that I am covered.

^ I was fornutate enough at my CCC to have a transfer counselor who worked directly with me and a UCD rep in regards to my app as well last year. I still email my UCD transfer rep from time to time with questions and always get answers. It really makes a world of difference and can set your mind at ease knowing you have people who are there to help.
