Taking a W in your first Semester of Senior Year in High School

My girl has 3.96 GPA , Honor Student, 2250 on the SAT. She is taking 4 AP's this Senior year and a total of seven courses. She's a liberal arts girl who can do science, too. She's applying to Liberal Arts schools and has some stellar scores in Reading, Writing 790/800 SAT etc. She doesn't like Science that much. Scores typically lower 700/800 in Science comes in at the 90-92 level for most sciece courses.

She's overloaded. Has no time for anything and is really overbooked although she is running a B in this one AP Science class that is overwhelming her schedule and in essence ruining her senior year. She does understand how much work for how little return she is getting from this unfun course. Also, we know she's going away and we want to spend time with her before she goes and she can't even keep her eyes open.

Can she take a W for this AP course and if she get's all A's in 6 other courses (three of which remaining are AP Classes) will the W kill her chances and the best and midtier schools. She has no other W on her transcript and no blemishes. She has one B on her transcript freshman year but it's not the grade we are worried about she's really unhappy and can't keep up with the work load.

Second question, if she applied Early Decision to an Ivy and sent them her current courses and she drops this Science AP course how do we best handle it and not kill her chances?

Thank you.

Rather than a W, can she drop to regular or honors in this science class? It’s not just the W, but also missing a basic science that leaves a hole in her education. It’s also easier to explain to schools as well - she changed classes to make time for other important commitments in her senior year and reduce the conflicting demands for her time. No further discussion needed.

If it’s too late for her to change this semester, one B won’t kill her chances. She can change to honors science at the end of the semester, I assume.
