Is it appropriate to take a year off after 12th std. to prepare for SAT? Is it okay to do that? Do admission officers look at that. I study in the CBSE board in India. I do not have time this year cuz i am aiming at getting 90%+ In my 12th board exams.

You can get 90% above and also do well on the SATs. But really if you are cool with a gap year, your call. We all didnt take gap years :)

Good Luck!

It's an individual decision. Taking a gap year certainly needs planning. Don't take a year off only aiming for SATs, utilize the time with volunteer oppurtunities, internships and other significant experiences. If you do so, the adcomd would be pleased that you have challenged yourself and not wasted your time.

If you manage well, a gap year can do you a lot good.
I suggest you to share your plans about a gap year, then, we could give some relevant and not-so-vague comments.

hi!!.
well I definitely think taking a gap year is an incredible opportunity!.. of course, as jasonshah said, don't prepare only for SAT's. Ideally would be taking a year off after u are accepted to college.
I took a year off and traveled to Europe, I am still here and I am starting college this fall. I have no regret on "wasting" a year , even though all my friends started college a year ago and they speak only about grades and parties at their colleges. I think this year I took off was such a great experience.. living by myself, meeting people and places, getting to know myself a lot better, working.. hahah!!..
Of course, now I am really looking forward to start college!!

that would be cool, but not necessary if youre doing it solely to prepare for SAT. Do something beneficial, anything that would look nice to put in your application. While waiting for college to start, I worked as a admin assistant, it was cool and I get moolahs as well=)
