Taking a year off?

Hey guys, I am a returning CC member currently attending Cal. My boyfriend, who is also attending Cal has had some rough circumstances thrown his way and has been thinking about taking a year off from school in order to save money and wait till he's 24 (financial aid). Has anyone here ever taken a year off, as a transfer student with senior standing?
Thanks in advance,
Kelli

@ Kelli: Are you sure he can take a whole year off? I know a semester is possible, but I’m not sure about a year. Also, how’s it been going to the same school as ur bf? One of my considerations when picking between Cal and UCLA was that I was worried about things falling through with my gf, who now goes to UCLA, and I didn’t want to be there at UCLA if that happened. I would have second-guessed at things, ya know?

Also, being a spring admit, my transfer experience (to this point) has been a little disappointing. I head up to campus for my Buddhist Psych class on M/W, but my lecture hall has 300 students and I haven’t really met anyone. I’m wondering if you feel like actually living on/being at the campus all the time is much more fulfilling and fun…because so far commuting (for lack of better wording) sucks lol.

Be pro-active emil rather than reactive. Go out and engage with people talk to the people around you. Mostly everyone is friendly and want to make friends.

Join clubs on campus a great way to meet people with similar interest, but yes commuting sucks especially if your one of those that go to class than go home.

@ peterr: Well, I’m definitely not trying to be one of those “go to school, then go home” kids, but that’s sort of my situation because of the spring admission. I tried to live on campus, but I needed 12+ units at Berkeley through Extension. With my job, a couple CCC courses, and the lack of availability of spots in classes at UCB that I’d be interested in, I couldn’t take 12 at UCB.

All this said, you’re right. I could probably find at least 1 or 2 clubs that I could join in the meantime. I’m probably joining the Berkeley Ambassador Program. Thanks for the advice, man!
