taking action for those waitlisted!

for those who were put on a waitlist (especially for cals), what have you sent cornell to show your interest and/or what have you done? Is it too late if I havent done anything yet? Thanks so much!

kurplunk... That's the sound two of my golf balls made today... Is your name a golfing reference? a cross between a water hazard and 18 holes? :p sorry for invading the thread.

kurplunk, I want to tell you a bit of my story. I was deferred ED from an Ivy and I read everything about being deferred on this forum and how to improve your chances...yadda yadda yadda. Thing is I wrote another Why Ivy essay, I wrote another personal essay, as well, I sent in an updated list of extracurriculars and sent in another teacher recommendation (presumably better than the other 3 I sent in before since I have a good relationship with that teacher). the result in april: rejection... you imagine my devastation (I am still not over it)...and I want to tell you something I learned from a waitlist letter I received and my personal ED experience...whatever you do, do not overwhelm the admissions office with updates; in fact, I believe that both for the deferred candidates and for the waitlisted ones, the admissions office is looking only for the certainty that the candidate will enroll if admitted... if you had been a crappy candidate you would have been outright rejected, especially at Cornell. But since you are on the waitlist, the admission office likes something about you...they kind of want you. You don't need to show them how good you are (the only exception: if you got really really good awards/ECs meanwhile, in which case you just send in an updated list of ECs); they already value your application; the only thing that boosts your chances now is stating that cornell is your first choice.

hmm well i emailed them and said cornell is still my first choice and i would still love to go and bla bla like two weeks ago or soetning. it wasn't long though. it was like three or four sentences or somethiing. yall think i should kinda say that again in may so they will know for sure that i really wanna go there?

maybe you can get an alumni to write something on your behalf.

my friend was waitlisted, but when she checked her status online yesterday, she couldn't find the "Check decision" section. Instead, she found this "Your application has been forwarded to the College of Arts and Sciences admissions office for review." in her Cornell application status page. Did you guys have the same problem?

I was accepted RD, and my Check Decision thing also disappeared, so I don't think it means anything.

oh! Thanks
