Taking AP Bio and AP Euro as a Sophmore

I have never taken an AP class so i have no idea what it will be like next year.
I’m trying to decide if i should drop one of them, but i’m not sure.
people think i’m crazy for taking both of these classes, but people on this forum take way harder classes than these.

so from people who have had the experience with these classes or just AP classes in general, i have a few questions.

What should I expect from taking these two classes next year? (how much time spent on homework and studying)

Are these classes hard AP classes compared to other AP’s?

Is it really worth it to give up time to take these classes?

thanks guys

My S took 3 AP classes as a sophomore: AP Spanish Language (he attended a language immersion elementary school and took a class each year in MS in Spanish), AP Calc BC (he’d completed honors Trig/Math Analysis so it was the next logical step) and AP Euro.

He got A’s in all three and 5,5,4 on the exams. Of the three, AP Euro took him the most time BY FAR. The teaching methods and the type of analysis you will need to learn is quite a bit different from what you’ve already experienced, in most cases.

He never took AP Bio.

It will be a different level from your previous honors/regular classes. I was a sophomore this year and I took AP World History. Most of us are used to high grades in Social Studies without studying, so the first test was a killer for us all. But after that we got used to it…

Basically it’s take time and effort but it’s well worth it at the end! :)

It won’t be that hard to do both. But if you were to take one, I would recommend Euro. It is very rewarding.

Yeah, make sure you take AP World History or AP European History sometime in high school, because as brahms91 said, it is very rewarding. Plus, you get to impress everyone with your Jeopardy skills when watching because 1/4 of that is history.

But yeah, I took AP Bio and AP World in sophomore year, and homework didn’t help me much, but reading the textbook as it was assigned to be read instead of slacking off and cramming for the unit tests really paid off. These classes are good for 10th graders, but don’t get me wrong, they are not “easy.” It is extremely worth sacrificing your time. Trust me. I’m sure that goes for AP Euro as well

thanks guys.
i see that you guys are saying that it is worth it in the end.
but specifically HOW is it rewarding?
will it really impress colleges that i took 2 aps in sophmore rather than 1?

Well, Euro is really rewarding because you learn A LOT. You learn all about economic, social, diplomatic, etc. developments that formed western civilization. It is not rewarding because it will impress colleges. If that is all you are taking the AP class for, then it will be just another chore, but if you take the class as an opportunity to learn something interesting, then the class will be fun.
