Taking AP Calc AB but taking BC Test?

My school only offers AP Calc AB which I will be taking next year.
Will it be possible for me to take the AP Calc AB test and the BC test, even though Ill only have taken AB?

You can take any test(s) you want, but if I remember correctly you can't take both Calc AB and BC in the same year. My memory fails me, so that might not be right, but I think that's the way it is.

You can take it, but you will need to cover the extra material. Also, the BC exam gives you an AB sub-score which some colleges will give credit for.

But you cannot take both in the same year because some of the questions are the same, which is how they calculate your AB sub-score. Also, they are offered at the same time.

is bc a /2 year course? like basically, one could take ab 1st semester and bc 2nd and take the bc test?

Your AB subscore is more than just the identical questions. For instance, one of the BC-only questions contains parts each year used for the AB subscore. The AB subscore simply means only those materials that could be on the AB exam, not necessarily questions that actually were on the AB exam.

Also, BC really only takes on another 20-25% of the material that AB covers. In that sense, it's not really a year-long class that would follow AB. It either would be taken instead of AB, or it would be offered after AB with some additional non-AP materials as well.

When I took BC, we finished the AB material at the end of first semster and went on to do an additional 3 or 4 chapters in our textbook. There were a few students who chose to take AB one year and take BC the next, but that isn't common, at least in my school. So in that sense, BC is the same course as AB, just with a few extra topics and at a faster pace. If you plan on trying to cover the BC material to supplement the class and then take the BC test, I would recommend focusing on sequences and series, which is the most prominent BC-only topic. See the College Board Calculus BC Topic Outline for more detail.
